**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 19**
Victoria’s melodic voice wafted through the wall, a soft undertone that accompanied my efforts to perfect my makeup. As I carefully reapplied my mascara and refreshed my lipstick, I could feel the anticipation building within me. Once I was satisfied with my appearance, I stepped back into the room, where I found my brother Ethan standing close to Victoria, his expression a mix of concern and determination.
“How’s the search going?” I inquired, my voice laced with urgency as I hurried to his side, my heart racing at the thought of Amelia still being out there.
“We tracked her into the woods for quite a distance,” he explained, his brow furrowed in frustration. “But after that, the trail went cold. We’re still looking. I managed to convince Damien to come back home for a bit, though. He needs to eat and rest, and I can handle any pack business that requires immediate attention.”
Nothing yet, he said. Excellent. I let out a long, deep sigh, feeling a wave of tension wash away as I sank into a nearby chair, the weight of my worries momentarily lifted.
“She went into the woods?” Victoria echoed, her tone shifting to one of grave concern. “That area can be incredibly dangerous. For any of us, but especially for a human.”
We exchanged knowing glances, a silent understanding passing between us. With a bit of luck, perhaps little Amelia would remain lost in those woods indefinitely. Too bad, so sad, oh well.
“Darling,” Victoria murmured, her fingers gently caressing Ethan’s cheek. “I need you to do something for me. You’re aware of how delicate Claire’s condition is. Amelia’s reckless actions have her on edge, and that’s simply not good for the baby.”
“I hadn’t realized,” Ethan replied, his voice filled with genuine concern. “Claire, I’m so sorry. Are you alright?”
I mustered a brave smile, trying to mask the anxiety bubbling within me, and nodded reassuringly. “I’m holding up alright, trying to stay strong. But I can’t shake the worry about what might happen if Amelia decides to stir up even more trouble than she already has.”
Victoria pulled his face closer to hers, her gaze intense. “Which is precisely why we need you to keep us informed. If you hear anything—anything at all about Amelia—we must know immediately. And,” she emphasized, “we need to know before Damien does.”
“He’s already burdened with so much,” I added, my voice quivering slightly. “He shouldn’t have to deal with her too. We can manage it for him.”
