**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 20**
**Jake POV**
I was right on Sienna’s heels, my heart pounding in my chest as I caught sight of the stunned expressions etched on my parents’ faces.
“He says he’s going to protect her instead of handing her over. And he thinks she’s his mate!”
The shock in their eyes was palpable, a silent exchange of disbelief passing between them, like a secret language only they understood.
“But, if she’s already Damien Alpha’s mate, she can’t be Jake’s,” my mother interjected, her voice steady but tinged with concern.
“Exactly! Which means Amelia has, I don’t know, put a spell on him or something. You should see the way she looks at him, acting like a victim while she flirts with him. She’s clearly manipulating him – and he’s obviously not in his right mind right now.”
I stared at my sister, a tempest of emotions swirling within me—rage, confusion, and an overwhelming sense of betrayal. My sister had always been the dramatic one, quick to jump to conclusions, but this was a new low, even for her.
Who even is she anymore? I thought bitterly, a knot tightening in my stomach. Each passing moment made her feel more like a stranger than my own sister. Our bond, once so strong, was now fraying at the edges, as if we were no longer truly siblings.
I turned my gaze to my parents, half-expecting them to dismiss Sienna’s outrageous claims as mere fantasy. Yet, to my utter disbelief, they seemed to take her seriously.
“This is an outrage!” my father exclaimed, rising to his feet, his voice booming with authority. “Harboring another Alpha’s Luna, Jake? In our own home! Are you insane?”
“And Alpha Damien, of all people,” my mother added, her tone laced with alarm. “This could mean war!”
Before I could interject or attempt to clarify the chaos that was unfolding, they stormed out of the room, a whirlwind of fury intent on confronting Amelia. Panic surged through me, and I instinctively tried to follow, desperate to shield Amelia from two very furious werewolves barreling toward her. But Sienna was there, a barrier between me and the door, blocking my path with a swift and determined stance.
She had always been as quick as a snake.
“Not this time, Jake,” she declared, a triumphant smirk dancing on her lips. “There’s no way you’re going to get away with this foolishness! You’ve brought a human, another Alpha’s mate, into our home, and now you’re going to have to pay the price. Let’s see how long you remain the favorite child after this.”
The words cut deep, igniting a fire within me that I had never felt before. It wasn’t just the venomous lies she had spewed or her incessant need to vie for our parents’ affection as if they had a favorite child. It was that smug satisfaction on her face at the thought of casting Amelia out, leaving her vulnerable and alone in a world full of dangers.
I lost it.
In a flash, I seized Sienna by the arms, refusing to let her manipulative tactics hold me back any longer. I yanked her away from the doorway, sending her stumbling several steps back into the room.
“You listen to me,” I growled, my voice low and fierce. “You’re so consumed by jealousy and deceit that I hardly recognize you anymore. You don’t act like you belong in this family at all. In fact, Amelia feels more like one of us than you do, and I only just met her. Now, get out of my way.”
Sienna stood there, momentarily speechless, her face a mask of rage and disbelief. I knew there would be consequences for what I had just said, but at that moment, I couldn’t bring myself to care. I needed to reach Amelia.
I bolted out of the room, racing down the stairs with no idea of the scene that awaited me below. All I knew was that whatever it was, it couldn’t possibly be good.
“My name is Amelia,” I began, my voice trembling slightly. “My mate is Alpha Damien. I know I’m just a human, but I’ve dedicated myself to the pack throughout our entire relationship. I’ve been undergoing treatment for months, trying to get pregnant so Damien could have an heir. And now I am—”
“You’re human, and you’re carrying a werewolf child? An Alpha’s?” Lillian interrupted, her eyes wide with disbelief as she exchanged glances with Martin.
“Yes, it’s true. But it doesn’t matter. He’s already found a surrogate, an actual werewolf, who’s carrying his child. He doesn’t want a hybrid child. He was going to hide me away and make the surrogate the new Luna. I knew I had to leave if I wanted to protect my child.”
The weight of Damien’s words echoed in my mind, a haunting reminder of my worthlessness in his eyes. “Just a pack member,” he had said.
I braced myself for their reaction, watching as their expressions darkened with concern.
But to my astonishment, Lillian’s eyes filled with tears, and she rushed forward, enveloping me in her warm embrace, Martin following closely behind.
“Oh, you poor girl! Damien is truly despicable for putting you through all of this. Don’t worry, we’ll protect you from now on. I swear it!”
In Lillian’s comforting hold, I felt a sense of belonging that I had never experienced before—not just since entering the werewolf realm, but in my entire life. It was an incredible feeling, yet it left me bewildered.
I glanced up and saw Jake watching us, confusion etched across his face. Just then, Sienna burst into the room, her expression frozen in disbelief. She looked as if she couldn’t fathom what was unfolding before her.
“What? How… How is this possible?!” she exclaimed, her voice a mixture of shock and incredulity.
