Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 266

**Chapter 266**

“You danced with Mommy!” Amy exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

With a heavy sigh, I sank into a nearby chair, the weight of my thoughts pressing down on me. “Amy, we’ve had this conversation before. Annette is your mom’s adopted sister. They may share a resemblance, but they are not the same person.”

Stacy, ever curious, chimed in, “Are they twins?”

I shook my head slowly, trying to convey the complexity of the situation. “No, they’re not twins. It’s purely a coincidence that they look alike. They aren’t even related by blood.”

My gaze drifted to the memorial for Amelia, a somber reminder of the past that I could never shake off. A wave of guilt washed over me. Was it truly wrong to let the girls form some connection with Annette? Was it permissible because she was Amelia’s sister in spirit, if not by birth?

Yet, the thought of the girls potentially replacing Amelia with Annette in their hearts and minds filled me with dread. I didn’t want them to forget their mother, the woman who had given them life and love.

Perhaps coming here had been a grave error. Maybe we should have returned to the pack, resumed our lives, and left this place behind. If we departed now, the chances of encountering Annette again would diminish significantly, especially if I made a conscious effort to steer clear of familiar haunts—like the theater.

“We should head home now,” I announced, my voice steady but tinged with reluctance.

“But we just got here!” Stacy protested, her disappointment evident.

“I know, but I don’t want you to overdo it. You just got out of the hospital.”

“But…” Stacy’s voice trailed off, and I noticed her gaze drop to the floor, the spark of enthusiasm fading as fatigue crept in.

“Can we say goodbye to Mom first?” Amy asked, her voice soft yet insistent.

I raised an eyebrow, my heart tightening. “To her picture?”

Amy frowned slightly, her little brow furrowing in thought. “I meant… Annette.”

“Amy’s right,” Stacy interjected, her eyes brightening with hope. “What if we never see her again? We want to say goodbye.”

Against my better judgment, my eyes scanned the crowd, searching for that striking silver gown and the lovely figure wearing it. There was Annette, standing at the edge of the dance floor, her expression tense as she conversed with Ian, who seemed to be arguing with her.

A flicker of irritation ignited within me. Ian didn’t seem to appreciate her at all.
