**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 290**
**CONTENT: Chapter 290**
A warm flush crept across Jeffery’s cheeks, and I had to suppress a triumphant grin, fully aware that the battle of wits had already tilted in my favor.
**Damien’s POV**
After some negotiation, I finally managed to persuade Alpha Grey to grant Annette and me permission to meet at the hospital situated within his pack’s territory. The purpose of our visit was to allow her to examine Stacy and provide any necessary treatment.
Grey was an old acquaintance of my father’s, and I was grateful for the bond they shared; it seemed to have worked in my favor today. Although my request was rather unusual and came with a barrage of questions, Grey eventually relented.
“If this spirals out of control,” he warned, his tone serious as he laid down the law regarding the pack’s neutrality, “I want no part of it. I’ll deny to Alpha Jake that I had any inkling of what was going on here. Do whatever you need to do for your girl, but for the love of the Gods, keep it under wraps.”
“I understand,” I assured him, feeling the weight of his words. “If things go sideways, I promise to shield you and your pack from the fallout.”
“That’s all I ask in return,” he replied, a hint of relief flickering in his eyes.
With that, I gathered Stacy and Amy, leading them to Grey’s pack hospital to meet Annette. Just as Grey had assured, a room was prepared for Stacy, and we made our way there to await Annette’s arrival. To my surprise, she was already inside, bustling about the room, her medical bag open and ready on the counter.
“Mom!” The girls exclaimed in unison, their voices ringing with excitement as they dashed toward her, arms outstretched for an embrace.
Annette dropped to her knees, a smile lighting up her face as she welcomed their affection. “I’m your Aunt,” she gently corrected them, her tone playful. “You keep forgetting that.”
The girls, caught up in their joy, didn’t acknowledge her words, and Annette seemed content to let it slide. I too chose not to dwell on it. Every time I laid eyes on Annette, it felt as if the very fabric of my existence shifted. It was hard to reconcile the fact that she hadn’t always been a part of our family; she felt like an intrinsic piece of our puzzle.
Once the initial greetings subsided, Annette’s gaze met mine, and I noticed a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks. “Hello, Damien,” she said softly, her voice a soothing balm.
“Annette,” I replied, a smile breaking across my face. “It’s truly wonderful to see you.”
“You too,” she echoed, her eyes sparkling.
For a moment, we simply stood there, lost in each other’s gaze. I found myself captivated by the depths of her eyes, a swirling storm of emotions that threatened to pull me under. But I quickly reminded myself of our purpose here; we couldn’t afford to linger in this moment, for both our sakes.
