**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 292**
**CONTENT: Chapter 292**
**Amelia’s POV**
As the moment approached for us to part ways, I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. I wrapped my arms around Sienna, pulling her into a tight embrace, savoring the warmth of our friendship. After that, I turned to the kids, my heart swelling as I said my goodbyes. But when it came time to bid farewell to Damien, an unexpected tension filled the air. We stood there, both of us caught in an awkward silence, our eyes meeting but neither of us quite knowing how to bridge the gap.
A hug felt far too intimate for our current relationship, yet a handshake seemed starkly impersonal. What was the proper way to say goodbye in this moment? Were we destined to remain suspended in this uncomfortable limbo forever?
No, as much as I longed to linger in Damien’s gaze, I knew this was neither the time nor the place for such indulgence. Responsibilities loomed over us, pulling us in different directions, demanding our attention and focus.
So, we refrained from embracing. We didn’t even extend our hands for a shake.
Instead, Damien simply said, “Goodbye, Annette.”
I replied softly, “Goodbye, Damien.”
With that, we each took our separate paths. I began my walk along the sidewalk, my car parked at the edge of Jake’s territory, a couple of miles away.
Damien, on the other hand, must have driven here, as I noticed him guiding the girls toward the parking lot.
I paused for a moment, watching them. The sight of the girls looking up at their father, their faces radiant with joy, brought a smile to my lips. They truly were a happy little family, and even though my time spent with them had been fleeting, it filled me with a sense of contentment.
Being around them had a soothing effect, a balm for the past six years of my life, during which I had felt incomplete without them. I couldn’t quite articulate why their presence had such a profound impact on me, but it was undeniably true.
As I embraced this newfound relaxation, I felt my wolf stir within me, stretching and settling comfortably in my mind.
“Today was a good day,” I murmured to her, hoping that many more such days lay ahead in our future.
**Damien’s POV**
We were just about to reach the parking lot when a familiar scent wafted through the air, catching my attention.
Amelia.
I spun around, scanning my surroundings, but the only person in sight was Annette.
Yet, this scent was unmistakably Amelia’s, albeit intertwined with something distinctly… wolf-like?
But Amelia was human. I was certain of that. I had discovered her in the human realm, completely unaware of the existence of werewolves until I stepped into her life and revealed the truth.
I halted, grappling with the confusing sensations swirling in my mind. I tried to catch the scent again, but it had vanished, leaving me questioning my own perceptions. Had I imagined it?
The things I had sensed couldn’t possibly be real.
“Daddy, are you okay?” Amy’s voice broke through my thoughts.
“Should we go talk to Mommy again?” Stacy chimed in, her youthful enthusiasm evident.
“No,” I replied, my mind clouded with confusion.
That scent had stirred memories of my desperate search after discovering Amy’s existence. I had raced to the church, only to find Amelia’s ashes, a haunting reminder of my loss.
It had to be a lingering echo of my trauma or perhaps a figment of my imagination, a fantasy born from grief.
Regardless, it was not something worthy of my attention.
“Come on, girls. Let’s head home. I think we all could use some rest and a good night’s sleep.”
It took a while, but I eventually managed to convince myself that the whole thing had been a mere figment of my imagination.
What a cruel joke I had played on myself. If only Amelia had possessed a wolf, perhaps she could have survived…
During the drive home, the girls animatedly discussed their encounter with Annette.
“She’s so pretty, don’t you think, Dad?” Stacy asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
