**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 323**
**CONTENT: Chapter 323**
**Damien’s POV**
As we drove back to my pack, the weight of the day settled heavily on my shoulders. I dropped the girls off at their school, watching them scamper away with their usual exuberance, a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me. Once they were safely out of sight, I headed straight to the office, my mind racing with thoughts of Sienna and the mysteries surrounding her.
I knew I couldn’t tackle this alone, so I enlisted Keegan’s help. Together, we plunged into the depths of Sienna’s history, determined to unravel the threads that connected her to Amelia. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to this than met the eye. After all, Sienna was Jake’s sister. If their family had embraced Amelia as one of their own, wouldn’t Sienna feel a sense of sisterhood towards her as well? It baffled me how one sister could betray another so easily.
Yet, as I pondered this, a memory flickered in my mind—Sienna whispering into the ear of Alpha King Benedict during that fateful time when I had nearly lost my life due to his decree. What had she said? That Amelia had bewitched us all? The thought sent a shiver down my spine. Perhaps uncovering her motive wouldn’t be as challenging as I had feared.
In fact, it turned out to be surprisingly straightforward. Within the first hour of our investigation, Keegan unearthed Sienna’s college transcripts. They revealed that she had transferred to a different university shortly after Amelia had been accepted into Jake’s pack. My heart raced as I considered the implications.
We dug deeper, sifting through old newspaper clippings from that time period. After some diligent searching, we stumbled upon an opinion piece that hinted at discord within the Alpha’s household. It claimed that Sienna had been sent away deliberately due to her increasingly hostile behavior towards Amelia. The article cited unnamed sources, including a few servants from the house, but the editor had noted that these claims remained unverified.
I couldn’t help but wonder about the editor’s connection to the Alpha family. How had they managed to keep a lid on such a scandalous story for so long?
Of course, the opinion piece could have been pure conjecture, but given what I had witnessed in Sienna, I was inclined to believe it. At the very least, it provided us with a solid starting point.
Trouble at home. Accusations of witchcraft. Sent away to another pack.
It was clear to me that Sienna’s jealousy over Amelia’s sudden prominence in her family’s life might have pushed her over the edge. While it wasn’t enough justification for murder in my eyes, perhaps it was for Sienna.
“Alright,” I said, turning to Keegan, “we have a glimpse into her mindset. Now, let’s track her movements.”
Keegan nodded in agreement, and we shifted our focus. The information surrounding the Alpha Ball was six years old, and many witnesses had since attended other Alpha Balls, making it difficult for them to recall specific details.
Fortunately, due to the severity of the crime, the footage and phone transcripts had been preserved, albeit tucked away in a box at the Alpha headquarters of that pack. The current Alpha was willing to share the information, but we would need to retrieve the files ourselves.
“I can make the trip,” Keegan offered without hesitation. “I can leave right away.”
“Thank you, Keegan,” I replied, a wave of relief washing over me. “That would be incredibly helpful.”
He nodded, already shifting gears as he began to make travel arrangements.
As he focused on his plans, my phone buzzed insistently on the desk, cutting through the tension in the room.
Keegan reached out to grab it, but I was quicker. “Stay focused on what you’re doing,” I instructed him firmly. “We need those documents ASAP. I’ve got this.”
I pressed the phone to my ear, bracing myself. “This is Alpha Damien.”
“I know you’ve been meeting my sister in secret.”
The voice on the other end was unmistakably Jake’s.
A wave of regret washed over me for having answered the call instead of sending it straight to voicemail.
“Annette is her own person, Jake. She’s an adult and free to make her own choices.”
“I don’t owe you any explanations. I’m only calling out of courtesy between Alphas.”
His tone dripped with anger, and it hardly felt like a courtesy call. What was he really after?
“Get to the point,” I said, irritation creeping into my voice.
“I threatened war last time, and it wasn’t enough, so now I’ll threaten you directly,” he stated, his voice low and menacing.
