Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 324

**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 324**

**Chapter 324**

**Amelia’s POV**

I didn’t need to respond to Cara; the truth hung heavily between us like a thick fog. Yet, rather than cower in fear at the thought of her revealing my secret to Jake, a fierce anger bubbled up within me, matching the intensity of her own.

I was no longer a child; I was a grown woman, and it was utterly unacceptable that I felt like a prisoner within the confines of my own home.

“You’re so eager to question my actions, but what about you?” I shot back, my voice laced with defiance. “How can you stand by and condone Jake’s treatment of me? Why are you complicit in keeping me a captive here?”

Cara’s response was cold and unwavering. “It’s for your own good.”

I felt my blood boil at her words. “I am guilty of nothing except trying to assist a little girl suffering from a rare medical condition,” I retorted, my frustration spilling over. “If I’m denied the chance to see her and provide the necessary treatment, that condition could resurface. You cannot just turn a blind eye to this!”

Her expression remained unmoved, a mask of stoicism that offered no comfort. “It is for your own good,” she repeated, as if those words could somehow justify the situation.

“My good?” I scoffed, disbelief flooding my voice. “Are you really suggesting that Stacy doesn’t matter? Is that what you’re implying?”

“I’m sorry, Annette,” she said, her tone almost apologetic yet firm. “I know this is not the answer you wish to hear, but yes, you are more vital to this pack than that little girl. As an enforcer for this pack, your well-being must come first.”

Those words struck me like a slap. How could she be so heartless? Cara and I had never exactly been friends, but she had always been my shadow, my protector. I had trusted her to keep my secrets from Jake, but now I was faced with a chilling realization: she might truly be a cold-hearted individual.

I stared at her, feeling as if I were gazing at a stranger for the first time. The woman I thought I knew was gone, replaced by someone I couldn’t recognize.

“She’s just a little girl…” I murmured, my heart aching, hoping against hope that she might reconsider or tell me I had misinterpreted her stance.

But Cara merely continued to regard me with that impenetrable gaze.

Fine. If she could show no compassion for Stacy, perhaps she would at least have some consideration for me.

“You already have,” Cara countered, a hint of sadness in her voice. She closed her eyes for a brief moment, and when she opened them again, they were filled with a steely resolve. “I was there. I was Amelia’s bodyguard, and I was supposed to protect her that night. I watched her door like a hawk, completely unaware that she would crawl out the window.”

I glanced over my shoulder at the window I had almost attempted to escape through, feeling a pang of regret.

“I failed her,” Cara continued, her voice heavy with regret. “I refuse to make the same mistake with you, even if it means I must tighten my grip on your protection.”

With that fierce determination etched into her features, it became painfully clear that she would not allow me to escape. Whatever missteps Amelia had taken were now costing me dearly. I couldn’t even muster anger towards Cara, knowing how deeply the weight of guilt pressed upon her.

“I’ll remain here,” I conceded, my voice softer now. “For the time being. Until I can prove to all of you that I am not Amelia…”

Cara nodded stiffly, but she made no move to exit the room, her presence a constant reminder of my confinement.

With the knowledge that I had a watchful guardian hovering over me, I sank down onto the bed and opened my book, seeking refuge in the pages as I tried to escape into my imagination, knowing that my reality was a prison of its own.
