Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 345

Chapter 345

Damien’s POV

I took a swing at Jake, punching him straight in the mouth. Everyone stilled after, as if so surprised by what I had done that they were frozen in place. But then, Jake looked at me, and in the next instant, he started swinging too.

It was almost a relief to feel the blow into my stomach. Finally, I had an outlet for my rage and my fear.

I grabbed Jake by the shoulders and we started to grapple.

Martin and Lillian were trying to stop us, but I could barely hear them. With how ferociously Jake was fighting back, I didn’t think he was paying them much mind either.

Only when Healer Eve appeared, her voice shrill and authoritative, I heard something other than the rushing of my own blood and the snarling of my own wolf inside of my head.

“If you want to fight, do it outside,” she snapped. “You are only getting in the way here, and we are trying to save people.”

She was bold, to speak to two growling Alphas like that, but she was also right. I wanted to pummel Jake, but I didn’t want to hurt anyone else to do so.

I looked at Jake and he looked at me. We seemed to have the same thought, because then, almost amicably, we started walking through the waiting room toward the door outside.

The minute we were in the parking lot, our fight resumed, with Jake attempting to tackle me. I smashed my elbow into his pack, getting him to back off.

Our fight continued for a while, as we were fairly evenly matched.

But eventually, maybe because of my taller height or my training, or because of my fury at having been kept in the dark about my own mate being alive, I won, punching Jake in the face again so hard that he stumbled.

He fell down onto the ground, but I suspected it had more to do with exhaustion than the force of my punch. His eyes were open and he stared at the clouds in the sky.

I was tired too, and dropped down so that I was sitting on the pavement.

We must have looked ridiculous. A moment ago, we had been fighting like two feral animals. Now, we were resting in the middle of the parking lot.

Yet, as sluggish as I felt now, my muscles burning from overuse, I hadn’t forgotten how all of this began. Amelia remained at the forefront of my thoughts, always.

“Just tell me the truth,” I said. “Why did you keep this from me?”

“To protect her,” Jake said. “I blame you for everything that Amelia suffered. Her wolf manifested and she survived the attack. But when she woke up, she didn’t remember anything, not even her own name. I thought this might finally be the chance for her to start again, with a clean slate. Without you.”

“You hate me that much?”

“You chased her away. You led her to make so many terrible decisions for herself. She was constantly in danger, and then she nearly died,” Jake said. “So, yeah. I hate you that much.”

I’d made mistakes in the past, so I wouldn’t try to convince him otherwise. If our roles had been reversed, I likely would have done the same.

“What about her?” I asked. “She wasn’t happy when you were pushing her with Ian.”

“Ian has been handled,” he replied.

I wasn’t totally sure that was true. Even from my pack, I had heard the rumors of how lan had thought Jake’s family had mistreated him, and even accused them of making a joke out of him.

Pushing Ian from my thoughts for now, as the thought of him made me want to smash the pavement until my hands were bloody, another person came to mind, no less troubling but for different ways.

“Did Sienna know?” I asked.

“Yes,” Jake said. “I had no reason to suspect her.”

“She always hated Amelia. She accused her of witchcraft,” I scoffed. He could lie to himself, but I was done being lied to. “You had to know something was brewing there, even if you didn’t know what.”

“Sienna agreed to keep the secret, and for a while, things were really good. Amelia and Sienna got along like sisters would. They were friends.” Jake sounded even more defeated than he looked. “Sienna had spent time away. I thought she had changed. I didn’t know… It was so much worse than I imagined.”

At least Sienna was facing trial now and would soon receive punishment. In jail, she wouldn’t be able to hurt Amelia ever again.

“Amelia’s appearance changed,” I said, eager to switch subjects.

“When her wolf manifested, she started to take on traits of her lineage,” Jake said. “Yes, she is actually my sister. She was taken as a baby, switched at birth with Sienna, and disappeared into the human realm. But she is my flesh and blood.”

I was so, so angry at him and his family and everyone who knew this secret and kept it from me.

But, at the same time, beneath that anger and the fear, a new sort of hopeful feeling was starting to emerge, one that I hadn’t felt in a very long time.

Amelia was alive.

Even if she didn’t remember me, she was still here with me in person. Maybe the memories would come back, or perhaps we could make new ones.

Suddenly, I didn’t have to feel guilty for my budding affections for Annette. Now they made perfect sense. She was my mate, and had always been my mate. My attraction to her had been entirely natural, even if neither of us were aware of it.

I only needed her to wake up, to be okay, and then we could move forward, better this time. I would appreciate what I had this time and work hard to keep it.

I just needed her to wake up.

Hours later, long after Jake and I stood up from the pavement and went inside without a word, sitting quietly with his parents in the waiting room, Healer Eve walked out from the emergency rooms and waved for us to approach. All of us went.

“Annette is stable,” Healer Eve said.

“Amelia,” I corrected.

Healer Eve looked at me, and then at Jake, who nodded. So she knew. Of course she did, she was probably Amelia’s

primary healer.

No matter. I didn’t care right now. I only cared that Amelia was stable.
