Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 351

Chapter 351

Amelia’s POV

As soon as my daughters walked into the room, something inside of me clicked into place. I fell in love at once. Or, no, that wasn’t right. I already loved them, I just knew it now.

They seemed nervous standing before me, but I couldn’t have that. At once, I opened my arms, and seeing the invitation, they came running. I held them tightly, and they hugged me back. For this one small moment, even without my memories, everything was absolutely perfect in the world.

That trend only continued as my parents came into the room. As my daughters knew me, I knew them, and as they came forward to give me a hug, I felt like I was a kid again, with all of my past hurts and my past loneliness washed away.

I didn’t know how I came to be in the human realm, but it was clear as my mother started crying, that the decision hadn’t been made by her.

As I eased back, taking everything in, Jake said, “If you ever need anything for any reason, you can depend on me and our parents. Just call us, no matter the situation and we will be there.”

He likely meant this as a comfort to me, and in a way it was, but it also had me questioning. Why would I have a problem so big that I couldn’t turn to my mate and husband for help?

I didn’t need to remember the full history to notice the clear animosity between Damien and Jake. The body language said enough, with the way they glared at each other or insisted on standing on opposite sides of the room from one another.

Even without proof, I had a sneaking suspicion that I was the cause of the tension here, though I couldn’t say a word without knowing the full reasons, the full weight of the things that had been done and said in the past.

I feared my attempts to meddle would only make things worse, kicking up old memories that, if I remembered them, I would know should have stayed in the past.

For now, I simply thanked Jake for his offer and pretended I did not notice the animosity festering in the room.

The full group didn’t get to stay with me long. Eventually I started to feel tired, and Eve warned everyone, including me, not to push too hard. Soon, my parents, the girls, and my brother all left the room to allow me to

rest.

Damien saw them out but then returned. He couldn’t seem to stay away from me for too long at a time, which pleased me. I felt more at ease with him nearby. Being in a strange place, in a strange future, with so much different. It was nice to have someone familiar – someone beloved – here beside me.

I rested for a little while, with Damien reading from his phone, sitting on one of the chairs. I dozed in and out for a time, unsure how long I was asleep each time.

At some point, Healer Eve came into the room and I woke up fully.

She had a kind of easy familiarity with me that told me we had known each other in the past. I wished I could remember if she had been my friend. That felt like such a foolish childish question to ask, and I was too embarrassed to.

Were you my friend?

I held it in for now.

“Amelia,” Eve said. “I know you have some questions regarding your wolf. While she is resting now, there are a few exercises we can perform to maybe help you get in touch with her.”

I sat up straighter, excited to try. I didn’t know what it felt like to have a wolf, so it was still difficult for me to accept that I had one at all. After all, I didn’t feel any different than I normally did. But everyone said I had one, and I didn’t think they were lying.

“I’d like to try,” I said.

“Good,” Eve replied. “Close your eyes.”

I did as she instructed.

“Very good. Now. A sleeping wolf might try to make itself small, but yours has a strong presence. She has made herself a large part of your life. So even while she is dormant, you should still be able to find her and attempt to wake her.”

“How?” I asked. “I don’t know what kind of feeling I’m searching for.”

“She will feel like weight… sitting in the back of your mind. To see her, you must quiet your own thoughts and listen, not to the sounds around you, but to those within.”

I tried to do as she asked, quieting my thoughts, but the sounds around me were harder to tune out.

My heart monitor beeped rhythmically. Damien leaned forward on his chair, causing the old springs to squeak a little. In the hallway beyond my door, the chaos of the emergency room was still unfolding, with nurses and doctors running up and down the halls.

I tried to listen to the sounds of a sleeping wolf, or to feel her weight somewhere inside of me. But all I could think about then was how difficult it was, and how much of a failure I was, not just to lose my wolf but to also forget her.

I’d forgotten my wolf, my parents, my brother, and even my own children.

How was I ever going to forgive myself?

“I’m sorry,” I said, opening my eyes. “I don’t think it’s going to work.”

Healer Eve kept a steady gaze on me. “It would be difficult to hear in here. Keep trying on your own. Perhaps, in a moment of quiet, you will find your way to your wolf, or she will find her way back to you.”

“I hope so,” I said, but then the nerves set in. “What if I lost her forever?”

“Impossible,” Eve said. “We can all scent her. Right, Damien?”

“That’s right,” Damien said at once.

“She is still there, just resting. In time, if you cannot reach her, she will return on her own,” Eve said.

I really hoped she was right. But that question brought on more questions, more curiosities about my current

predicament and how I found myself in it.
