Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 353

Chapter 353

“Healer Eve,” I said more firmly, allowing some of my Alpha authority to enter into my voice. “While I appreciate your concern, and know that it comes from a place of caring for Amelia, I must request that you not question my abilities to protect my mate. I will keep her safe, and that is that.”

Eve lowered her gaze. “I know you will try,” she said. “But you cannot possibly shield her from everything.”

“I will,” I said, even more determined when faced with her doubt. “I will keep my mate as happy as she is now for the rest of our lives.”

Eve looked up at me again. “Can you truly do that while you are lying to her?”

“Yes,” I said, and hoped it was true.

The next day, Amelia was moved out of emergency and into the slower-paced side of the hospital. I stayed with her as much as I could, with the kids visiting before and after school, and Jake and his parents there throughout the day.

For a few days, the routine stayed the same. Amelia’s health didn’t change at all, nor did her memory return.

Finally, the healers stopped finding reasons to keep her for observation and she was finally allowed to go home.

The minute we walked through the front door, the girls insisted on showing Amelia around. Amelia laughed good-naturedly and allowed them to drag her. As she went though, she clearly remembered much about the estate, commenting on some superficial changes here and there.

The girls’ rooms were different than she remembered, but she seemed happy with the change, glad the girls made a home out of the rooms that had mostly sat empty for so long.

Seeing Amelia’s smile, so wide and carefree, filled me with my own kind of joy that had sat dormant for a very long time. I had been something of a ghost before, shambling through life, but now, with her here and so bright, I was revived.

When it came to be bedtime, we both tucked in the girls. Even though they were six, they insisted on story time from their mother. They must have wanted the full mother experience. I regretted that they hadn’t experienced it until now.

Then, after the stories were read and the girls tucked in and dozing, I took Amelia’s hand as we stood in the hallway.

This was the part I wasn’t sure of.

As Annette, Amelia had kept her things in a separate room. Now, I wasn’t sure if I should send her there to sleep or if I should lead her to the bedroom we had shared once, before all of this had happened.

Before I could even find a way to ask, Amelia tugged at my hand and led me toward the room we had shared.

“I love our daughters,” she said, when the door was safely closed behind us. “But I have been waiting for this. To have you alone here in our room.”

“Amelia…” My hands itched to hold her.

It had been six long, lonely years since I had last seen her and known her to be my mate. Since I touched her? Even longer.

I didn’t want to screw this up.

Yet, when she looked at me, up through her eyelashes, and she pressed her teeth lightly down on her bottom plump lip, teasing me, I couldn’t wait anymore.

This was my mate. The love of my life.

The woman I had pleased many times in the past. The woman I had been born to pleasure.

I didn’t need to stress. I didn’t need to think at all.

“I want you,” she said, and that was more than enough for me.
