“That wasn’t reason to try to kill her,” I said.

“You can’t even see, can you?” Sienna said. “You still don’t see my side of things, and you don’t care to.”

“Sienna,” I said, more firmly. “Just tell me who the accomplice is.”

“Bite me,” she snapped and turned to the side, no longer looking at me.

“Sienna,” I said again, but she ignored me now. I didn’t even earn an eye roll this time.

The prosecutor had been right. Talking to Sienna hadn’t helped anything. She had too much hate in her heart.

Sienna wasn’t my sister anymore. She hadn’t been for a very long time. Maybe she never was.

“Goodbye, Sienna,” I said and turned to leave.

I wouldn’t be returning again.

Damien’s POV

When I returned to work that morning, I had a spring in my step, and it wasn’t just because I had the best sex of my life the night before. It was more about having been reunited with the love of my life and having that love reaffirmed.

My family was whole again, just like my heart, and for the first time in such a long time, I was looking forward to the future and the possibilities it held, not just dreading more lonely nights while I tried to hold on for my kids.

My life was restored to me, and I was happy again.

Keegan must have noticed an immediate difference as I walked by his desk, because he looked at me like I was a stranger. Or that I had grown a second head.

To be fair, I was whistling.

“Alpha? Are you okay?” he asked.

“I’ve never been better,” I told him. Along the route, I had noticed that he wasn’t the only one who had looked at me strangely, though Keegan had been the boldest to actually ask. The rest just whispered behind my back.

Let them think whatever they wanted. I supposed the truth would come out sooner or later. Now that Amelia was in my life again, I wasn’t going to let her go. She was my love and my Luna. In the past, I had messed up by trying to keep her hidden. She had thought I was ashamed of her.

Never again.

I couldn’t be more proud of the woman I loved, for the talented Healer she was, for being a good mother to our children, and for being the perfect mate to me.

As I sat down at my desk, I felt refreshed, ready to take on the day and its challenges. While Amelia had been in the hospital, I had been neglecting my Alpha duties, but I was ready to correct that now, as I started to go through the group of papers on my desk.

I only got a few papers in before my phone started to ring. Still concentrating on the paper work, I answered the phone.

“This is Alpha Damien,” I said.

“Damien. It’s Jake.”

Jake was often grumpy with me, but he seemed particularly annoyed this morning. Especially in comparison to how bright I felt.

“Did something happen?” I asked, even though I didn’t want to know. Could my good mood last longer than one simple morning, a mere few hours?

“There’s new evidence in Sienna’s trial,” Jake said. “She had an accomplice, someone who helped her plan, more than the person who almost actually murdered her.”

It made sense. From what I knew about Sienna, she lacked conviction to act alone.

“Do we know who?” I asked.

“Not with any proof,” Jake replied. “But the records point to the culprit being someone within your pack. With your Beta and your sister gone, that leaves only one person…”
