Chapter 359
Amelia’s POV
I might have time jumped six years into my future, but honestly, I was having a lot of fun adjusting into this new reality. Yes, I hated that there was so much that I had missed, particularly with the girls. Birthdays. Milestones.
Yet, though I missed those things, I was still incredibly happy to be able to experience the things in the now. Hugs and laughter. Cooking for my family in the kitchen. Being there when the kids and Damien came home after a long day.
I never really aspired to be a homemaker, but in this moment, I was having a good time.
While my family was gone, with the girls at school and Damien at work, I took some time to really evaluate the changes made to the house. I went into every room, even the spare rooms.
Curiously, some of my clothes were in the drawers and closets of one of the spare rooms. This was a little strange. When had I moved these things out of the room I shared with Damien? Although, it wasn’t totally unusual for married people to have separate places where they could put their things and gather their thoughts
once in a while.
I supposed we had reached the phase in our relationship where we could have our own spaces while still choosing to sleep together every night in a shared bedroom.
Either that or I simply needed more closet space than the master bedroom could provide.
Whatever the reason, I knew it had to be something innocuous. With a timeless love like the one between Damien and me, those were the only possible explanations. There was no way we were sleeping separately because we were fighting or something.
As I was walking around, the girls came home. Rushing into the house, they immediately called out for me.
“Mommy! We’re home!”
I dropped everything and went down to greet them, earning twin hugs as I did. I watched some television with the girls, made them a snack, and then helped them with their homework.
A couple of hours later, just before dinner, Damien arrived home.
When the girls and I heard his car pulled up, we went to the front door to greet him as he came through.
He laughed when he saw us, hugged the girls first, and then kissed me gently on the lips. The tension that had been in his shoulders when he had come through the door immediately deflated, and he smiled.
“I could get used to this,” he said.
This surprised me, “Wasn’t I like this before?”
“Oh, yes, of course,” he said, glancing to the side. “I just… can’t get over it. I’ll never get over having you be here for me, my love.”
I kissed him again, and the girls giggled.
Truly, my life was so wonderful and filled with so much happiness. I didn’t know how it could possibly be any

better.
No, that was a lie. I did know how.
Somewhere out there, I had parents and a brother. I barely knew them, but they loved me.
As much as I wanted to stay here and keep living out this great life, I was greedy because I wanted to expand it. I wanted to know my biological parents and befriend my brother, who had seemed so sad and hurt when he had realized I had forgotten him.
I waited to talk about this though, keeping it inside of myself. I didn’t want the girls to know what I was thinking, worried that they misinterpret as them not being enough to make me happy.
That wasn’t it at all. I loved my daughters more than I loved myself. And I couldn’t wait to know them inside and
out.
But my love was not finite. I wanted to learn about my birth family as well.
Damien must have seen how distracted I was, because the moment we put the girls to bed and retreated to our room, the door closed behind us giving us our privacy, he encouraged me, “Tell me what’s bothering you, Amelia.”
I couldn’t hold back with him. If he knew me half as well as she should have with us being married so long, he would soon be able to figure it out all on his own anyway.
And I didn’t want any secrets between us.
“I’ve been thinking about my parents and my brother, Jake,” I said.
“Oh.” His good mood dimmed somewhat, and I immediately regretted bringing this up.
“I’m sorry,” I started.
“No.” He held up his hand, stopping me before I could even begin to apologize. “It’s natural for you to be curious, and to want to know them. You forget how well I know you, Amelia. I know how lonely you were in the human realm. I can only imagine how curious you are, and how much you want to know them.”
I laughed a little, my heart filled with love. “You do know me.”
“I do.”
“So then you must know what I want to ask, even if I’m a little frightened to.”
“You don’t have to be frightened. Not with me.’
I took a steadying breath, gathered my courage, and said, “Would it be okay… if I went and spent some time with Jake and my parents.”
Damien pressed his mouth hard together. He gave me a stern look, and I could see that he was hesitating. “We just got you back,” he said.
“I know.”
“I don’t think you did,” he said. Walking closer to me, he took my hands in his and laced our fingers together.

I’m not sure I want to share you so soon.”
I had been worried at first, but when he said that, I smiled, knowing that his hesitation came from a place of love. That would make it easier to win him over.
I already had a plan for what might work.
