Chapter 367
Amelia’s POV

Organizing the banquet gave me a renewed sense of purpose, something that I had been lacking since I woke up in the hospital missing the past six years. Though I loved my family, and have enjoyed getting to know them, f needed something to focus on, some way to feel like I was bettering society somehow.
This banquet was my chance to do just that. It wasn’t just a party for me, to announce my return to the role of pack Lama. By having the banquet along pack lines, this was a gesture of the comradery between the two packs, individual but connected.
I knew there was still tension between Damien and Jake, and that I was the only real connecting factor between the two packs. But I was willing to take on that role, if it meant that the two packs would stronger allies.
Secretly, I also just thought it would be a lot of fun.
Because the borderlands were mostly just woodlands, without any buildings or structures large enough to have a banquet the size I was planning, I decided that we would rent many outdoor tents and pavilions and arrange for a makeshift banquet hall outside.
–
I wanted string lights and flowers and a live band with a temporary dance floor. I planned everything as well as I could, bouncing ideas off of Lillian and the girls, and even Jake and Damien at times though I wanted to do most of this without the input of the Alphas.
As Luna, this was my responsibility. If I depended on them too much, it would look like weakness. I had to make a good impression, and for the show to be a success, to show those that doubted me on both side of the border that I was capable.
After most of the general idea work was done, I needed to start making arrangements, which meant going into town. My plan was to hire caterers and purchase the things that I would need from both packs equally, to be certain of fairness.
While we were in Jake’s pack, I thought this was the perfect time to make the arrangements for this half of things. Yet, as I started for the door, list in hand, I was surprised when Damien abruptly stepped into my path, cutting me off from leaving.
“Where are you headed?” he asked me.
“I wanted to go to the florist,” I said. “I want to give them enough time to gather together the sheer amount of flowers we’ll need for the event.”
“I’ll go with you,” Damien said.
That seemed strange. Most of the weekdays we had been here in Jake’s pack, Damien had taken to doing his Alpha work remotely, checking in with Keegan, or attending various meetings online. Today was a bright and early Monday morning. Surely he had other things to do.
“Are you sure?” I asked him, confused.
“Yes,” he said. He turned and opened the door, “Let’s go.”
As strange as this was, I wasn’t going to turn this opportunity down. I loved spending time with Damien and it

would be really nice to have a second opinion on things. Especially his.
We took a car to the flower shop. Another car followed along behind us. In total, we had six of Jake’s enforcers with us. After we parked, four stayed outside the front façade, while two came in with Damien and me.
The florist seemed startled but she recognized us right away. “Lady Amelia. Alpha Damien. What a nice surprise. How may I assist you?”
Seeing she was somewhat tense, I approached her calmly with a gentle smile, hoping to put her more at ease. It seemed to work, especially as I got more and more detailed about my plans for the banquet. Before too long, she was excited as I was, and we were bouncing ideas off of each other.
“I really think some hydrangeas would look gorgeous,” she said. “The question is what color? We could do white, and perhaps blue?”
“Blue or purple,” I said. “What do you think, Damien?”
Glancing back at him, I was surprised to find that he wasn’t even remotely paying attention. In fact, he was at the large decorated store window, looking out like he was searching for something… or someone.
“Damien?” I asked again.
Finally, he seemed to hear me, and turned to look back at me. “Yes, my love?”
“Is something going on outside?” I asked.
“Oh, no,” he said quickly. “I was just taking in the scenery.”
That seemed… suspicious. After all, Damien had seen downtown before, many times since he had arrived here. Also, we were at the flower shop. If anywhere was the place to look at scenery, it was inside the building where all of the flowers were.
At the same time, I couldn’t really think of any reason why Damien would lie to me about this, or about anything really. We had a happy partnership, built on trust and on love.
Maybe there was something personal going on with him, like he didn’t feel well. If he lied about it now, he might not have wanted to bring it up in front of the florist.
“I hope we can talk about it later,” I said, trying to be supportive. “If anything is wrong.”
His gaze returned out the window. “Of course we can, but nothing is wrong.”
Even with his saying that, I felt uneasy. My husband wouldn’t hide anything from me, would he?
Claire’s POV
I was inside the borders of Jake’s pack, snooping around. For the sake of anonymity, I wore a wig and did my makeup in such a way as to reshape some of my features. It wasn’t a perfect disguise, but if I kept a low enough profile, I didn’t need to go over the top.
After all, if guards were looking for me, chances were they had been told to keep an eye out for a woman in a wheelchair.
I really hadn’t ever needed the wheelchair. It had been somewhat helpful the first few years, but now it was truly
