In an instant, the tempest of rage surged back within him, fiercer than before. “Over my dead body,” he vowed vehemently, his feet propelling him toward the shadowed corner where Amelia was hidden, a fierce determination fueling his every stride.

Jake, ever the obstacle, intercepted him with a swift movement. “That could be arranged,” he quipped, seizing Damien and yanking him back toward the center of the room with a surprising strength. The atmosphere crackled with tension as Damien heard the unmistakable sound of the enforcers he had brought with him rushing into the house, their presence a promise of impending conflict. Yet, almost simultaneously, he sensed Jake’s own enforcers rising to confront them, a standoff brewing in the dimly lit space.

Damien had come with only a minimal arsenal, ill-prepared for an all-out confrontation. He had sought answers, not to ignite a war between two formidable packs. But if it came to that, he was ready to defend what was his.

As the gravity of the situation weighed heavily on him, Damien shook off Jake’s unyielding grip, making a conscious decision to retreat—for the moment. “Have it your way,” he declared to Jake and his family, his voice firm and unwavering. He turned to Amelia, raising his voice so it would carry to her. “I’m leaving,” he stated, a note of finality lacing his words. “But this isn’t over.”

Before stepping out, he pivoted to face Jake’s family, a fierce warning etched across his features.

“You better mean what you say about taking care of her. If you so much as lay a finger on her, or dare to cross any line with her… I swear on my life, I will hunt every single one of you down,” he promised, his voice low and menacing, a vow that hung in the air long after he had departed.
