Chapter 390
Amelia’s POV
The pack wives stood there in shock, their smiles hollow now.
I didn’t think I had been unclear, but still, I spoke once more, “Reverse these changes at once. I want the things you had taken down put back at once, like the flowers and the banner. We can leave the colors for now, but don’t think I will forget how to you tried to undermine me here with this.”
“You… can’t be serious,” said one of the wives.
“We were only trying to help,” said another.
I looked at them all with a flat expression, one to the next. “You must truly believe me to be some kind of fool if you expect me to believe that.”
“Luna -”
“You only did this to test my boundaries,” I snapped, not letting them finish. “Well, allow me to make things clearer for you. During the planning process, you are allowed to present your ideas for decorations and we will consider and debate them as we have done. But let me make myself clear.
“Once the decisions are made, once my final say has been declared, and the decorations even put up – there is no more argument or discussion.”
I waved around. “This? What you’ve done here? This is blatant disrespect, and I will not stand for it. I am your Luna, and you will not question me, or go behind my back to alter anything, whether you think I need your help or not. If I need your help, I will ask for it. Do I make myself clear now? Do you all understand what I am saying? I don’t want any more misunderstandings in the future.”
The wives’ smiles totally fell now. As they looked at me, they nodded, frowning.
“I would feel better if you said so,” I said.
“Yes, Luna,” they replied one after another.
“Good, now let’s fix this before our guests arrive. Where is the proper banner?”
It took a bit of time, and I made the wives do the work themselves, not allowing them to dictate it to their servants, but eventually, things were more or less arranged as they had been before.
The wives were not happy, but they at least seemed to respect me now, asking me to approve things and accepting my answers.
With how they were acting demure now, I felt more confident that they would at least not give me such a hard time anymore. They had to see now for sure that I was not the same woman I had been in the past. I was not going to bend to their mind games, and if they tried, I’d use my authority to bend them to my will instead.
Fortunately, we had finished fixing things before the first of the guests arrived, Damien among them. Seeing me, he hurried to my side, a growing smile on his face.
When he reached me, he leaned in and kissed my cheek, “My love. Everything looks wonderful.”

“Thank you,” I told him, pride swelling within me.
Yet, despite that feeling of contentment, the matter of the blocked channels still lingered on my mind. Maybe now wasn’t the best time or place to have a conversation like this, but if something happened with the children recently that required those channels to be blocked, I wanted to know about it.
“Damien,” I said. “I tried watching television earlier and -”
At once, his entire demeanor shifted, tensing. Yet before I could say one more word, his arm went around my shoulders and he gestured out to the banquet hall.
“Tell me which flowers are from where,” he said. “They are all so gorgeous, I want to know everything about how you decided to decorate. Also, what time is the food being served? I’m famished.”
I answered his questions as best I could, allowing him to misdirect me. Perhaps it was as I thought, and not a conversation for right here and now. But, I was confident, since I had told him about it, he would be planning on telling me later what had happened.
I supposed, for now, it could wait.
“The colors are a bit surprising,” Damien said. “There certainly is a lot of… pink.”
“Yes, well, those were not the initial colors I had selected,” I said. “I was in for a bit of a shock myself when I returned the banquet hall a bit ago.”
Damien gave me a critical look. “The pack wives gave you a hard time?”
“They changed a few things behind my back,” I admitted. “But I was able to get them to fix most of it. The colors, unfortunately, I can’t do much about right now.”
“Do you want me to speak with the wives?” Damien asked. “Or perhaps their husbands?”
“No,” I said. Though I knew his offer came from a place of love and protection, I couldn’t help but feel a little hurt that he did not trust me to handle this for myself. What would it take, for him to understand that I can take care of these things on my own?
Did he even trust me at all?
Or did he, like everyone else, still see me as the frail human who needed protections from anyone and everything?
As more guests started to arrive, and I fell quiet, Damien looked at me.
“Is everything alright?” he asked.
“Yes,” I said, “But I think I’d like to mingle on my own for a while. It’s probably best if we divide and conquer a group like this, rather than face it all one at a time.”
His face filled with confusion and a bit of hurt, but the hurt was gone in a blink. “If that’s what you feel is necessary,” he said.
“I do,” I told him. Belatedly, I added, “For the good of the banquet, of course.”
“Of course,” Damien said tersely. I didn’t think he believed me, but it was too late to back out now, without

revealing my hurt.
I didn’t want to be hurt. I just wanted to prove myself.
“We’ll reconvene in the middle,” I told him, then kissed him gently, to hopefully smooth over any hard feelings.
He held me against him for a moment longer, then let me go.
“Right,” he said.
