Chapter 420
Ruth’s POV
“How can you say that?” I said in response. For my child, I had infinite patience, but she wasn’t making things
easy.
Seeing her as she was now, so insecure and shaken, so easily taken advantage of by the master of this house, I wanted to shake her. Where was the brave and bold girl I had watched grow up from the shadows? Had Amelia’s appearance and her family’s betrayal affected Sienna so much that she totally lost all confidence?
That must have been it, and it was one more reason to hate Amelia and all she had taken from my daughter.
Not only did Amelia steal Sienna’s place in the Alpha family, she had stolen the spark that made my daughter the kind of special person that she had always been.
While I didn’t agree with Claire and Ian’s methods in persuading my daughter to their side on the matter of revenge, I couldn’t deny that I was looking forward to taking part in the revenge myself. Not for my own sake, but for Sienna’s.
The only problem was I didn’t trust Claire and Ian to actually come up with a good plan. So far, I’d watched them flounder about, never truly being successful. Claire, herself, had implicated Sienna more than once, getting my daughter in trouble while she walked free.
I would help them this time, if Sienna wished it, but I would be keeping my eyes open. As an active participant in this revenge, I would not allow Claire or Ian to hurt Sienna in that same way again.
Although the matters of the heart were an entirely different matter.
Sienna’s crush on Ian was clear to anyone who saw her, and no doubt Ian was taking advantage of that. Something must have happened to Sienna to look this destitute, when she had seemed so happy only a few minutes before.
I wasn’t sure I could forgive Ian for taking her smile away.
“You gave me up,” Sienna said, tears in her eyes now. The words were broken, and I started to realize that Ian wasn’t the only one who had stolen Sienna’s smile. I had too, long ago. My motives might have been genuine in wanting to give her a better life, but I could see the harm I had done now too.
I had set my beloved daughter up for a lifetime full of rejection.
She deserved better than that, not just from me, but from everyone.
“Only to protect you, Sienna. Only to give you the best possible life.”
In her misery, she was beyond hearing me. “You didn’t want me. No one wants me.”
She brought her hands to her face, covering it as the tears dropped down. The sight of those tears made my heart ache. If only I could shield my daughter from this pain. But what could I do? I was so helpless.
I’d already made my choices, my mistakes. Was there anything I could even say now that would convince Sienna of my motherly love for her?

I only knew of one thing to say that might work. The truth. Chances were she wouldn’t believe me, but if I didn’t even say it, then she would never have the chance to accept it.
Reaching out, I lightly grabbed her wrists and pulled her hands away from her face. When they were down, I replaced them with my own, placing my palms on her cheeks, holding her face steady between them. Like this, I forced her to look at me.
“Sienna, you may not believe me, but I will tell you this. I love you, and I always have. You are my only daughter, my only child. I would give my life for you. So please, whatever happened tonight, do not believe that you are anything but well and truly loved.”
