**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 44**
**Sienna’s POV**
At the behest of Amelia, the servants diligently retrieved the steaks from the depths of the freezer, placing them carefully on the counter to begin their slow thawing process. There was an impressive array of cuts, enough to satisfy the appetites of the entire household. She had not been joking in her intentions; she was genuinely preparing to create a feast for everyone.
Yet, I couldn’t help but think about the waste. The thought of all that meat going to use when the servants could easily fend for themselves gnawed at me. What did they need with such fine steaks? They had even attempted to voice their concerns to Amelia, but she had brushed them off, her mind set on her culinary plans.
As I stood there, I began to scrutinize the steaks laid out before me. I recalled how each person preferred their meat cooked—at least, those whose preferences I was aware of. The cook and the other servants chimed in, sharing their own cooking styles with Amelia. But honestly, who cared about their preferences? Yet, there she was, scribbling down every detail as if it was vital information.
Among the selection, one particular piece of steak caught my eye. It was undeniably a prime cut, likely reserved for my brother, the Alpha. The marbling was exquisite, and it practically glistened under the kitchen lights.
Amelia noticed my lingering gaze and raised an eyebrow. “Do you like that piece?” she inquired, a hint of curiosity in her tone.
“I think you should take that one for yourself,” I replied, envisioning her claiming it as her own rather than offering it to Jake. After all, she was the cook, and it seemed the entire household revolved around her whims.
It was only logical that she would choose the finest steak, just as she had taken so much else from this house—always prioritizing her desires.
“You really think so?” she asked, tilting her head as she studied the piece.
“Why not?” I countered, crossing my arms.
Her thoughtful silence spoke volumes, confirming my suspicions. She was precisely as self-serving as I had imagined.
With the steaks needing time to thaw and dinner still a few hours away, I decided to slip away, seeking refuge in my room. I couldn’t afford to risk adding the poison to the meat prematurely. My knowledge of poison was limited, but I figured that cooking it would likely diminish its potency.
