Chapter 443
Immediately, I grabbed the phone on my desk and dialed Damien’s number.
He needed to know. He needed to be warned.
Damien’s POV
Even with our recent understandings and connection, I was still nervous to leave Amelia alone. She’d promised me she wouldn’t go anywhere without me accompanying her, though, and because I needed to trust her, I still forced myself out the door.
Trust was difficult though, so I still had a guard text me every hour on the hour that Amelia was accounted for and safe. They did so secretly though, without Amelia seeing or knowing.
We were trying to fix things. She didn’t need to know how much my trust had been shaken.
Yet, even with some of my lingering issues, with her promise and with these messages, I was starting to feel like things were actually going right.
The sex, at least, was blowing my mind. Gods, the way she had

My phone rang, startling me from my straying thoughts. Seeing that it was Jake calling, I immediately answered the phone and brought it to my ear.
“This is Alpha Damien.”
“We need to meet,” Jake said, leaving no room for preamble or pleasantries. “Now.”
Ten minutes later, we were at our usual meeting spot along the border. Jake had handed me a dossier on his former-servant Ruth and I was combing through it.
With each new page, I felt a rising discomfort.

Worse, once the exiled reached rogue territory, they were as good as gone. The rogues protected their own, making them hard to track or find. The rogues also had children of their own, which left many werewolves strangers constantly able to cross the borders.
If the rogues were helping Claire, Sienna, and this Ruth, then we had much bigger problems than we had previously thought.
With rogues everywhere, both accounted for and unaccounted for, danger could be lurking around every corner. This wasn’t just people Claire and Sienna knew or hired anymore. The danger could be literally anyone unknown.
And it could also mean greater numbers.
Amelia wasn’t going to like what this meant.
With danger like this, there was no way I was going to allow her outside of the house, even with me there to

provide escort.
“I’ll keep Amelia safe,” I said, promising Jake.
He nodded. “Good,” he said, but after a moment’s pause, added, “Though we might have other problems.”
I had trouble seeing what could be worse than losing Amelia so I looked at him in question.
