Claire’s POV

As we sat down in one of the sitting room to properly plan, our disguises started to fade, returning us to our own faces. Without the unknown features in the way, I could again spot everyone’s tells, so I knew, even as they were sitting down here for our chat, that everyone was already defensive.

The problem with getting so many head-strong people in one room was that they all had their own ways of dealing with things. As such, no one was really willing to listen to anyone else.

My idea the best one, frankly was to try to poison Amelia again. “Disguised as wait staff, I can get closer than before. I wouldn’t be trusting someone else. I would hand Amelia the poison glass myself and watch her drink it.”

“That didn’t work last time,” Sienna said, clearly not having listened to what I said.

“I trusted someone else to handle it last time,” I said. “As already stated, this time, I would take care of it myself.”

“What use is she to us if she’s already dead?” Ian asked. “We should kidnap her.”

“Damien would stop us,” I said.

“I can handle him,” Ian replied.

I gave him a flat look, but he only puffed out his chest even wider, looking more ridiculous and pompous. Overconfident asshole. Did he really think he could take down an enraged Alpha trying to protect his mate?

“No one can handle’ Damien,” I said.

I wasn’t the only one who was annoyed with Ian’s plan. Sienna was glaring at him while he wasn’t looking. Though I was sure she was manipulating Ian just as much as he was manipulating her, her core feelings seemed genuine. Undoubtedly, Ian’s plans for after Amelia’s kidnapping upset her, even if he hadn’t yet stated those aloud.

Her jealousy was practically turning her skin green.

“It would be better to ruin her reputation,” Sienna said. “That would throw her life into chaos. Make it something so terrible that Damien would either have to divorce her or step down as Alpha himself.”

“How?” Ian asked, skepticism clear in his voice.

“We stage a scene. Knock her out and then put her in bed with another man,” Sienna said. “Arrange it so others walk in and see it. A cheater can’t be Luna. She’d be shamed from the entire pack.”

“While your ideas are imaginative and clever,” Ruth said, mainly to her daughter. “You are all overcomplicating the issue. We want Amelia to die, yes? So all we have to do is stab her and be done with it.”

“We’d never escape,” I said. “If we just walk in and stab her, it would be a suicide mission.”

“Then that is what it would be,” Ruth said. “Do you believe in this cause or not? If you are true to this cause, you would be willing to forfeit your own life to achieve your goals.”
