Chapter 455

Sienna’s POV

Fresh anger surged through me at seeing not just the affection Uncle Benedict was showing Amelia, but in the gift he was presenting her with! In all my time as his niece, his declared ‘favorite’ back before Amelia had come along, he had never given me such an elaborate and beautiful gift!

He had given me other things, silver trinkets, and even an exotic pet once – but never a necklace with such a big gemstone!

Yet here Amelia was, ever the victim, his favorite once more, no matter how undeserving, receiving such a gift.

In my rage, I’d accidentally bumped into one of the guests. My tray slipped off-balance and the food came crashing down.

For one terrible moment, everyone turned to look at me.

“I’m sorry,” I said quickly. At once, a group of servants, which included Claire, swooped in out of nowhere to help clean up the mess. The servants were well-trained here, and everything moved like a well-oiled machine.

Claire, with her arm around me, led me away, moving back into the servants’ area. Then, as we stepped to the side, out of the way of the rest of the working servants, she asked, “What are you doing, Sienna?”

“Did you see what he gave her?” I said, still in a bit of shock.

“Get it together,” Claire snapped. “Who cares about a necklace when revenge is on the line? If you blow this for the rest of it, that’s it, got it?”

She pushed me into a side room. It had a mirror and a counter, like a powder room before the actual bathroom. Ian and Ruth were already there. Claire entered me in and then locked the door behind us.

“Alright. We are here and the party is started,” Claire said, taking charge. “So now is the time that we finally solidify things.”

“Poisoning is still the worst idea,” Ian said.

His blatant disregard of Claire’s plan told me that he thought his own was the best. I remembered that he wanted to kidnap Amelia. This infuriated me. What other reason would he have to kidnap Amelia other than he wanted to still be with her?

He had to still be in love with her.

“I will not go along with kidnapping,” I said firmly, glaring at him.

He looked at me sharply. “It’s the best idea.”

“I don’t want to watch you around her,” I said. “I won’t just stand there while you try to convince her to be with you!”

Ian stood a little straighter. “And what’s your plan, Sienna? How are you even going to get her into a compromising situation? Don’t forget you need a man for that.”

“I can find one,” I replied, punchier than I originally meant to be, but I was so fired up that I could help myself. I

also didn’t like what he was implying here, like I wouldn’t be able to find a man to help me. Did he think I couldn’t seduce one?

“Sure you can,” he huffed sarcastically.

I narrowed my eyes. “Watch me.”

For a second, his eyes widened ever so slightly. As I turned from him, he grabbed my arm. “Where do you think you are going?”

“To seduce a man,” I snapped. “Let me go.”

“Don’t you fucking dare. You are with me.”

“Am I?” I snapped, glancing back over my shoulder at him. “If that’s true, then why do you need to kidnap Amelia?”

He didn’t have an answer for that and just stared at me, lips slightly parted, brow furrowed.

I wrenched my arm from his grip and started forward. I unlocked the door and stormed out of it, not caring how was following me.

I remembered seeing a handsome footman out by the cars. He would be the perfect candidate, I was sure of it. Reaching down, I unbuttoned a few buttons of my shirt, showing some cleavage.

Satisfied, I stepped outside.

Claire’s POV

After Sienna left, Ian stared dumbly at the door like she was going to walk right back through it and apologize. She wasn’t, even I knew that. Ian had finally pushed her enough that she was breaking away from him.

“Whatever,” Ian huffed, and reached for the door handle himself, leaving Ruth and me alone.

“Whatever your plan is, I’m not going along with it,” Ruth said, and left next.

I stepped out of the powder room last, and maybe the most frustrated.

While we hadn’t agreed on a plan up until now, I had hoped that actually being here would force everyone to pick something and work together.

Instead, I watched as Ian disappeared into the men’s room, a change of clothes under his arm.

Sneakily, Ruth palmed one of the knives from the carving station in the kitchen. No one but me seemed to notice.

Sienna was nowhere to be seen, likely already going about with her plan to seduce someone. Only the Moon Goddess likely knew if she would succeed.

With everything falling apart here, I knew this was an instance of everyman for himself.

I elicited a soft sigh and then moved to the drink table within the kitchen where I procured a tray holding several flutes of champagne.

I waited until no one was looking, then dumped a small packet of poison straight into the glass nearest me.

Stepping out into the ballroom, I offered a few flutes of champagne on my way toward the honored guest of the evening and his gracious hosts.

True to my intel, Amelia seemed to be annoyed with Damien. Whenever he stood too close to her, she would give him an annoyed look and put more space between them, sometimes even abruptly leaving conversations to move to a different group of people.

Perfect.

Without her bulldog bodyguards, she would be more exposed, more vulnerable. She’d likely take this champagne flute without a second thought.
