Chapter 454
“Presenting! His royal highness, Alpha King Benedict!”
The announcer stepped to the side as well. By now, most of the guests had moved forward to watch the spectacle, and what a spectacle it was.
The Alpha King Benedict still didn’t enter yet. Ahead of him was a slew of servants, each carrying gifts of food, gems, and golden statues. The gems and statues were set to the side, while the food was carried throughout the ballroom, served to each guest.
Then, finally, after a dozen women dancing in peacock-feathered outfits, the Alpha King finally appeared. His suit was gold with sparkling trim. The crown on his head matched in color, while also being dotted with many rare and intricate gemstones, mainly diamonds.
Everyone clapped politely. The trumpets blared again.
The Alpha King’s gaze slipped over the entirety of the ballroom before landing on me. Locked on me, he started walking straight for me.
Benedict’s POV
Walking into the banquet hall, I searched out my errant niece at once and immediately found her standing beside Martin and Lillian. Where Damien was, who could be sure? But I wasn’t looking for him yet. He would face his judgement soon enough.
For now, having heard that Amelia had partially recovered from her amnesia only to find herself suffering from a different version of it, I approached her, a test in mind.
It wasn’t as if I didn’t believe my nephew, exactly. Why would he want to keep the truth from me?
But such things seemed so unusual, I wasn’t certain they could be believed simply on word of mouth.
I needed to see for myself.
As I came to stand before Amelia, she curtseyed politely. I appreciated the sign of respect, even though it told me nothing.
As she rose again, I looked her over. In her face, she showed no sign of familiarity. She looked at me like I was a stranger to her, albeit one she knew to respect.
Curious.
“It’s good to see you again, my niece,” I said to her. “Last time we saw each other, things were certainly more complicated.”
She gave a nervous kind of smile. “I’m sorry, Alpha King. But I have a condition which affects my memory. I’m afraid I don’t recall.”
Despite her nervousness, I detected no hint of a lie. “Our first meeting then,” he said. “I even made you stand trial!”
Her eyes went wide with shock, before she bowed even deeper than before. “My apologizes, Alpha King, for

whatever I had done in the past to offend you in such a way.”
“You don’t remember that either?” I asked, suspecting now that this might be true.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t.”
Fair enough. “Rise, Amelia, for you are my beloved niece. Those meetings are of the past. I would like for this one to be a pleasant one, especially if it is a new first for you.’
Slowly, she started to rise again.
“I would have you look at me like your favorite uncle once more,” I told her. “Perhaps a gift would smooth things over.”
I gestured to one my servants who immediately brought forward the ruby gemstone necklace he was holding. He bowed as he presented it to Amelia.
Her eyes went wide now, more in surprise than fear, for which I was glad. “I couldn’t possibly,” she said.
“My dear,” I told her. “Don’t you know it’s impolite to reject a gift from the Alpha King?”
