**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 46**
**Amelia’s POV**
As I stood in the kitchen, the aroma of spices and sizzling meat filled the air, but beneath that delightful scent was a growing sense of dread. Cooking had turned out to be a colossal blunder, one that I had hoped would mend the rift between Sienna and me. I envisioned her face lighting up with joy as I presented her the finest cut of steak, a gesture of goodwill meant to bridge the gap that had formed between us.
But instead of gratitude, I was met with a shocking accusation. “You poisoned me!” Sienna had exclaimed, her pallor alarming. The words echoed in my mind like a haunting refrain. Had I inadvertently caused her harm? Panic gripped me. What if the steak had spoiled? Had I overlooked some crucial detail in the preparation?
I replayed the events of the evening in my head, searching for the moment where everything had gone awry. My heart raced as I recalled Sienna’s face, her eyes wide with disbelief and fear. What had I done to deserve this?
As Sienna bolted from the room, the others rushed after her, leaving me behind in a whirlwind of confusion and guilt. I felt like an outsider in my own home, acutely aware that my presence would only exacerbate the situation.
If Sienna had harbored any animosity towards me before, it was surely magnified now. The thought twisted in my stomach like a knife. Had I truly poisoned her? Or was it possible that she was experiencing some sort of allergic reaction? Either way, the implications were dire.
My mind spiraled further into anxiety, a storm of worries swirling within me when the maids emerged from the kitchen, their expressions a mix of concern and confusion.
“Miss? What was that noise? Is everything alright? Where is everyone?” one of them asked, her voice laced with worry.
I felt utterly adrift, unable to provide any answers. My intentions, which had been so pure, had backfired spectacularly, leaving me feeling powerless and ashamed.
Before I could even formulate a response, Jake and Martin re-entered the space, urgency etched on their faces.
“Call an ambulance,” Jake commanded one of the maids, his tone leaving no room for hesitation. The maids exchanged glances before darting off to obey.
“Are you certain?” Martin questioned, trailing closely behind his son. “That’s quite the serious allegation.”
“Quite serious indeed,” Jake replied sharply, holding up a small vial that glinted ominously in the dim light. The liquid inside was clear, but the label was obscured from my view. “Why would Sienna possess this unless she had nefarious intentions?”
“Why would she use it on herself? To frame Amelia?” Martin suggested, his brow furrowing in thought.
“Nothing so noble,” Jake countered. “Sienna isn’t the type to take such risks for herself. I’d wager the poison was meant for someone else.”
But to go so far as to poison me? It felt too extreme, even for her. After all, she was just a moody teenager, not a mastermind of malice. Where could such dark thoughts even originate from?
I struggled to wrap my mind around the possibility, clinging desperately to the hope that perhaps I was mistaken. I wanted to believe the best in her, in everyone, even as disappointment loomed like a shadow.
Just then, the maids returned, their faces taut with urgency. “The ambulance is on its way, Alpha. It should arrive shortly.”
I swallowed hard, glancing up at Jake, my heart racing with fear. “Will Sienna be alright?”
Martin’s expression tightened, a flicker of worry crossing his features.
Jake frowned, his brow furrowed with concern. “The poison is potent. We must get her to the hospital as quickly as possible.”
From that point onward, everything became a blur. The sound of sirens pierced the night as the ambulance arrived mere minutes later. Paramedics rushed through the house, their movements precise and efficient. They emerged moments later, carefully lifting Sienna onto a stretcher, her frail form surrounded by a flurry of activity. Lillian stayed close, her face a mask of worry as they loaded Sienna into the ambulance, tubes already inserted into her arms, oxygen flowing to sustain her.
As the doors of the ambulance closed, I felt a chilling sense of helplessness wash over me. What had begun as an attempt to foster connection had spiraled into chaos, and now all I could do was hope for Sienna’s recovery.
