Chapter 464
“Wait,” Claire said, speaking up for the first time since we had entered. Honestly, I had mostly forgotten all about her. She wasn’t really that important here. Certainly not as much as she wanted to be. “We really need to talk. A lot has happened and we should plan what to do next.”
Richard looked at her and while there was no maliciousness in his eyes, his voice was filled with sternness.” Young lady, I have been fighting this war for a very long time, and I can tell you, with certainty, that these things are best discussed with clear heads. You’ve had a long day, and you all need rest. Be assured, we will discuss things soon enough.”

Next to the fury in his eyes was shame, but as he looked back at me all of it centralized into a single focused determination. There was a no-nonsense intensity there that told me he would not be leaving any room for
discussion.
“You will be returning home,” he said. “I’m not sure if I’ll ever let you leave again.”
Rage started to fill me. I tried to be understanding, knowing what Damien was going through. I had just
