Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 468

Chapter 468

“Yes, he’s actually here in the waiting room.”

“Great,” I said. “Could you get him for me? I need to speak with him at once.” I tried to smile, to keep things light so Amelia wouldn’t suspect the danger we were all in. But, from the tenseness of her shoulders, I could tell she wasn’t buying it.

She either knew me too well to fall for it, or she already had some fear and knowledge about what might happen here. I supposed it didn’t take much imagination to worry what the rogues might want to do to us.

Unless there was something else bothering her…

“I’ll go get him,” she said.

Damien’s POV

I couldn’t relax, not with everything going to hells like it was. Amelia was right that the hospital was the safest place for her right now, the entire place swarming with guards, but I still couldn’t get my protective surges to

calm.

Without her directly by my side or in my line of sight, my wolf was pacing nervously in my mind. She could be in trouble and we wouldn’t know.

No, I told myself, trying to regain control of my emotions. If something happens to her, I’d be able to sense it through the bond.

That did little to comfort me in this moment. I was tired of being reactionary to her protection, ever showing up a minute too late and having to save her from things.

It took everything in me not to tear this hospital apart to get to her side, then to pull her into my arms, and take her somewhere that felt familiar and safe.

That wasn’t what she wanted, though. I needed to remember that. I needed to keep myself in check or I would risk pushing her away again.

I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t make the same mistakes as I had in the past.

Just as I thought I might have a handle on things, Amelia walked out of the back rooms. My wolf wanted to pounce, to protect. I held myself back.

She glanced at me as she walked over to Alpha King Benedict. To him, she said, “We’ve removed the knife and Jake is awake. He is asking to speak with you.”

Benedict nodded, then turned to Martin. “We will speak with him together.”

I rushed forward. “I will be there, too.”

Benedict looked at me. I stood taller under his gaze, unwilling to back down on this. Jake had been in that van, and he knew things about those fugitives. I wanted to be in the room when they talked about this.

My pack was in danger too, and that meant Amelia and my children, too. Maybe I could redirect my strong urge to protect Amelia by focusing on the fugitive problem instead. After all, that was the issue that was posing the

1/2

most danger to her right at this moment.

Benedict and I stared each other down, until finally, he said, “Very well, you can join us.”

Together, we followed Amelia into the back hallways to Jake’s room.

At first sight, he looked like hell, pale and worn. But his face was determined, even if he seemed somewhat out

of it.

As we filed around Jake’s hospital bed, I kept my eyes on Amelia, always keeping her in my line of sight. It was a comfort, finally being able to see her and knowing she was safe.
