Chapter 475

Sienna’s POV

Tan and I must have kissed for a long time. When we returned to town, the son was a bit lower in the sky. Strangely, most of the people we had seen earlier weren’t out and about anymore. Yet we could hear a collection of voices, shouting as if in unison, in the direction of Richard’s rogue pack house.

Holding hands, we followed the noise, and came upon most of the adult rogues training. They moved in perfected unison, practicing fighting moves. A group farther off seemed to be performing some military

maneuvers.

To the other side, a pair were sparing.

Dad was one of the fighters. I’d barely processed that before he roughly threw his opponent out of the ring. The opponent landed hard with a loud grunt.

Richard, seeing me, stepped over the fallen man and approached.

“Ah, Sienna. You have returned. I have been sparing you this until now, but there is no more need to hide it. We’ve been training for war for years, daughter, and soon we will have our time to act.” He grinned at me, his eyes a little wild. “Are you ready to be a princess in a new kingdom under my rule?”

Princess? I glanced at lan and he gave me a muted, approving smile.

To Dad, to lan, to all of the rogues, and even to myself, I said, “Yes.”

Damien’s POV

We’d been keeping the girls at home for the past while, but it was clear they were unhappy. They missed their ⚫ friends and wanted to go back to school. Amelia had been telling me this for a couple days now, and I’d been

putting off doing anything about it.

But when the girls stopped giving me morning hugs, I started to realize that this was truly having a bigger effect on them – and on our father-daughters relationship – than I wanted.

Even with the fugitives hidden behind the border of rogue territory, they were still in danger. But, they had a lot of their mother in them. I worried the harder I tried to keep them at home, the more they would long for freedom, to the point that they might even try to escape.

I was learning, through my compromising with Amelia, that a little freedom went a long way. So, that morning, I called some of the guards that I trusted the most and gave them very special instructions.

They were standing in the foyer as Amy and Stacy came down the stairs, expecting to start their day with their

tutors.

Amelia was in the living room, but stood and curiously moved to the doorway as I stopped the girls.

“Daddy? What’s going on?” Amy asked.

“I know you’ve been wanting to go back to school…” I started.

The girls inhale twin sharp breaths. Amelia looked surprised, too.

“You mean…?” Stacy said.

I gestured to the guards behind me. There were four of them, two for each of the girls. “They will be your bodyguards. You are not to go anywhere without them, do you understand?”

I expected some pushback, but maybe the girls were too young to be embarrassed by having a pair of burly guards following them both around. Instead, their eyes lit up like Christmas morning.

“We get bodyguards?” Stacy said, her voice high, so full of excitement. “Everyone is going to be so jealous,”

“So jealous,” Amy agreed, emphasizing.

I glanced at the guards, seeing the hints of amusement on their faces that mirrored my own. Mostly, though, they were professional, but it actually helped things if they liked my daughters. It seemed very much like they did.

Amy came running toward me for a hug, and Stacy was close behind. As I kneeled to return their hugs, they said, “Thank you, Daddy,” one after the next.

After they went out the door, book bags over their shoulders and bodyguards following close behind, I turned to Amelia.

She smiled as she saddled up beside me, slipping herself against my side. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder. She leaned up and kissed my cheek.

“I’m proud of you,” she said. “I’m proud to be your mate.’

Her praise smoothed some of my wolf’s frazzled nerves. It preened instead, under her affections.

“Does this mean you are going to allow me to leave as well?” she asked.

“Yes, but maybe not how you think,” I said. This, I had been giving a lot of thought. Amelia wanted to compromise, and while I wanted to do that for her, I also wasn’t ready for her to go too far from me. “You’ll be coming with me to the office. You can help Keegan with his work. I know you want to help.”

At this, Amelia beamed much in the same way that our children had done. It was clear who they got their smiles from. Even Stacy, who had Claire as her biological mother, still seemed to lean more towards Amelia’s mannerisms. It shouldn’t have been possible, but I was infinitely grateful it was.

Together, we carpooled to the office and then held hands as we rode up the elevator. As we walked down the hall, I spotted Keegan standing up from his desk. I’d already informed him about Amelia being his assistant for a while, and he’d personally approved of it.

“Alpha,” he started. He seemed concerned. Surely he hadn’t forgotten that Amelia was coming today? Did he think it was another day? Maybe he was worried he didn’t have enough work prepared for her.

Well, I wasn’t concerned. Amelia was capable, and Keegan was a good Beta. I was certain they could work well together, even unprepared.

“Don’t worry so much, Keegan,” I said. “Amelia will be an asset for you, even if you don’t have things planned.”

“That’s not -”

I waved away Keegan’s worry as I left Amelia at his side and entered into my office. One step into the office, I froze.

Alpha King Benedict was sitting at my desk.

“There you are, Damien,” Benedict said. “Do you always start this late?”
