**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 48**
**Damien’s POV**
The moment I received the urgent notification about a call from one of my spies embedded in Jake’s pack, I felt a surge of adrenaline that erased any lingering thoughts from my mind. I dropped everything, my heart racing as I dashed toward my office, the world around me fading into a blur.
Nothing mattered more than the safety of Amelia and our unborn child.
Ethan stood waiting, phone in hand, his expression a mixture of concern and urgency. I snatched the device from him, pressing it to my ear without a moment’s hesitation.
“Speak,” I commanded, my voice steady despite the chaos swirling within me.
“Alpha, it’s Jake’s family—they’ve been brought to the hospital. Amelia is with them.”
“Give me every detail,” I insisted, my heart pounding like a wild drum, drowning out the spy’s voice as I struggled to focus on his words.
He recounted the grim news, explaining that it wasn’t Amelia in immediate peril, but rather Jake’s sister, Sienna. The specifics of her condition remained murky, but there were hushed rumors circulating within the pack about poisoning.
As those words settled in my mind, the fleeting relief I felt at Amelia’s safety evaporated like mist in the morning sun.
“Is that all you have for me?” I pressed, desperation creeping into my tone.
“For now, Alpha. We remain vigilant, I assure you.”
“I need to know everything,” I reiterated, my mind racing as I pieced together the implications. “What kind of poison was used? Who was the intended target?” The thoughts raced through my mind like a tempest, each one more urgent than the last. “And I need you to do something for me.”
“Alpha?”
I knew this was a risky proposition, but it was the only course of action I could devise. My last encounter in Jake’s territory had nearly ignited a war; stepping back onto that ground again could lead to catastrophic consequences.
Yet, the thought of poison lurking in that house, the possibility that Amelia could be in danger…
Damn it, they were supposed to protect her!
“Wait for the right moment, then reach out to Amelia when she is alone,” I instructed, my voice low and firm. “Tell her she’s in danger and that she must return home immediately.”
“And if she refuses, Alpha?”
I longed for her to come back willingly, but I knew that was unlikely. She had been so distant, so resistant to my calls. When I spoke about the half-wolves, I had no idea she was carrying one herself.
