In the midst of a whirlwind romance, my life had taken a turn I could hardly have anticipated. The moment I met Damien, stepping into his world felt like slipping into a vivid dream, one that was intoxicating and exhilarating.

I had been so eager to relinquish everything that defined me—my ambitions, the future I had meticulously planned, my friends, and the very essence of the human realm—all in the name of a love that consumed me entirely. The sacrifices I made were immense, and the transition was fraught with challenges, especially considering the disdain I faced from most of the pack. Yet, despite the adversity, I had never once looked back with regret.

At least, not until now.

As I delved deeper into the intricacies of werewolf culture, I was blindsided by the news of Damien having a child with Claire. The weight of that revelation felt like a crushing blow—too much to bear, too far removed from the love I thought we shared.

“For the good of the pack,” he had said, as if my feelings were mere afterthoughts. He seemed to forget about our relationship, the dreams of a family we had envisioned together. I had longed for our future children, a symbol of our bond, but he had tossed those dreams aside carelessly for the sake of pack loyalty.

Deep down, perhaps I had always known the truth—that as Alpha, his duty to the pack would always take precedence over any personal connection he had with me. Yet, the heartbreak was still fresh, and I couldn’t shake the longing for a different outcome.

I had wanted him to choose me. To choose our child.

But to him, I must have always been an afterthought, a second-class citizen in a world where Claire reigned supreme. She embodied perfection, a werewolf with an esteemed lineage, her children destined to be powerful and respected. And there I was, a mere human, with a fragile half-werewolf baby, lacking any notable heritage or wealth.

All I had left was the love I clung to for Damien, a love that persisted even in the face of betrayal.

“Life,” I murmured to Eve, hoping it would suffice.

Her nod indicated it did. “Have you ever thought about training again? The hospital is short-staffed, as you’ve noticed. I would gladly take you under my wing.”

**Amelia’s POV**

A flicker of hope ignited within me.

In the realm of werewolves, while there was some foundational training available for healers, the majority of learning occurred in the heat of practice, guided by a mentor’s expertise. Under Eve’s vigilant guidance, I could hone my healing skills, particularly in adapting the knowledge I already possessed to this new world of werewolves.

With enough dedication and time, I could eventually stand before a panel of healers, proving my worth and earning the title of a full healer in my own right.

Perhaps this was the chance I had been seeking—a way to repay the pack that had sheltered me. Simultaneously, carving out my own career might grant me the independence I desperately craved from Damien.

Maybe, if I had to rebuild my life from the ground up, I could do it on my own terms.

“Alright,” I replied, a smile breaking through the clouds of uncertainty. “I would love to pursue medicine once more.”

**Jake’s POV**

Now that Sienna’s life was no longer hanging by a thread, the pressing question of her future began to loom over us.

Given the media frenzy surrounding our family, we had been relocated to a more secluded waiting room, far from the prying eyes of reporters who had taken residence in the public lobby. Healer Eve was under strict orders to keep the details of the situation confidential, but I was acutely aware that the truth—or at least fragments of it—would soon find its way into the open.

With the multitude of nurses and aides bustling through the hospital, it was only a matter of time before someone let slip that Sienna had been poisoned—if that information hadn’t already been leaked. Such a revelation would inevitably lead to questions, and while my instinct was to shield my family from scrutiny, I couldn’t shake the suspicion that Sienna had brought this calamity upon herself.

That didn’t mean I wished her harm; it simply meant we needed to tread carefully.

This seemed to satisfy everyone present. As my parents quietly conferred with each other, I stepped aside with Amelia. It had been some time since we had seen her; she had been busy assisting Healer Eve during the emergency.

Though she looked tired, her eyes sparkled with a renewed passion I hadn’t witnessed since she first arrived at our pack. It was as if she was awakening, and the sight lifted my spirits.

“Healer Eve has asked me to stay on as one of her apprentices. She believes I have a true gift for the art of healing, and my background in human medicine will only enhance my learning,” Amelia shared, her voice brimming with excitement. “I’ve always wanted to be a doctor, and now I have the chance to be a healer…”

“You do realize this will require hard work, right?” I cautioned, hoping she would grasp the seriousness of the commitment. This wouldn’t be a walk in the park, even as an apprentice. I had heard Sienna complain about the relentless pace of the job. “This isn’t a decision to take lightly.”

“I’ve been searching for ways to contribute,” Amelia replied earnestly. “I want to repay your kindness, but… if I’m being honest, this is also a selfish decision. The more skills I acquire, the better equipped I will be to stand on my own two feet again.”

A protective instinct surged within me. I couldn’t bear the thought of Amelia facing the world alone, not after everything she had endured. My family and I would always be there to shield her.

But I kept that thought to myself. Independence was a valuable trait to cultivate, and if it empowered her to sever ties with that tormentor, Damien, then I wholeheartedly supported her.

“It might be dangerous,” I warned. “You never know what kinds of individuals will enter the hospital.”

“I understand,” she replied, her determination unwavering. “But I’m willing to take that risk to help. Besides, Eve assured me that I can mostly stay in the back, assisting with patients. I won’t be out in the open very often, if at all.”

That brought me some solace. The hospital had its own security measures, but I planned to bolster them in the coming days. Whatever it took to keep Amelia safe, I would do.

I wouldn’t mention any of this to her, unless she specifically asked. I never wanted her to feel like a prisoner, even if her circumstances were dictated by Damien and his unrelenting pursuit.

Before I could say another word, Healer Eve emerged from the emergency room. “Sienna is awake.”
