My wolf skills surely helped me, but I believed that my motivation had also been a driving force. Everyone underestimated me even I did, at times but I wanted to be able to protect my mate, my kids, and even this pack that had become my home.

In the afternoon, my body felt like jelly left out in the sun, so I decided to stop training for a while. One of my body guards was in the foyer, so I asked him if he could please take me to the Alpha building.

“I’m feeling better now,” I said. “I want to help again, where I can.”

The bodyguard had to call Damien, as I expected, but Damien accepted. I worried he might not, given as how he liked to be the one to escort me places, but this bodyguard must have been one of his most trusted.

Finally, with no less than five guards around me, I was driven to the Alpha headquarters building. After getting out of the car, the swarm of guards followed, forming a small protective circle around me.

As we reached the front entrance, I noticed a man was there, trying to get inside, but he was being blocked by security at the door.

“My name is Jeffery,” the man said. “Alpha Damien knows me.”

“No one gets in who isn’t on the list,” security replied.

The man, Jeffery, turned his head and spotted me. Recognition sparked in his eyes, and likely somewhat stirred within me. I had a vague notion that I recognized this man, though I wasn’t sure how. No memories came to

mind.

“Annette!” he called, then stopped himself. “Or is it Amelia now? I’m sorry. I’m so pleased you got your memory back.”

I looked at him strangely as he boldly approached me, despite my guard entourage. He stopped outside of their protective circle.

He blinked. “You… did get your memory back, right?”

“I’m sorry,” I said. “Have we met?”

Surprise crossed his face. “Oh. Oh, dear. Yes, um. I was helping you with your memory loss. I’m a memory healer, you see. You disappeared one day and never came back. Then Sienna went to prison and everything went to heck.”

“You knew Sienna?”

He nodded. “She was supposed to be my assistant. I knew her from university, but she lied to me about everything. I guess she lied to all of us. Gosh. But forget her, I was your memory healer, so it’s you I’m worried about. You and the girls. I haven’t seen Amy and Stacy in a while. Are you all doing alright?”

“You know the girls?”

“They came with Alpha Damien to the appointments. Well, part of our meetings was you checking on Stacy’s health.”

“Lama, we should go inside,” said my bodyguard.

“Here,” Jeffery sald, and held out a business card. “It has all my numbers and my email on here. If you ever want to connect.”

The bodyguard reached forward like he was going to shove Jeffery’s hand and the card away, but I quickly snatched the business card before he could.

“Thank you, Jeffery,” I said.

He nodded, smiling a little, though it seemed strained, “I’ll be in town for a while, if you want help remembering.”
