Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 481

Chapter 481

Amelia’s POV

When I arrived at the office, I checked in with Keegan, but at the same time, I noticed with some annoyance, my bodyguard spoke with Damien. I could see Damien’s face harden during the conversation. Likely the bodyguard was telling him about how I had spoken with Jeffery outside.

He might even mention the business card tucked in my pocket.

Quickly, I accepted the first task of the day from Keegan-filing some of the files we had pulled yesterday – sol grabbed the stack and walked to the filing room. There, before I started my work, I quickly transcribed Jeffery’s information into my phone.

No sooner had I put the phone and card away than Damien came walking into the room.

“The guards told me you met a delusional man outside,” Damien said.

Delusional? Damien was already trying to undercut this man’s credibility. I trusted Damien with my life, but something felt off about this. It didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t remember why, but I didn’t think Jeffery was delusional.

“He said he knew me,” I said.

“You are Luna,” Damien said. “Everyone knows you.”

That didn’t feel like a good enough answer.

“He said he is a memory healer,” I added.

“People lie all the time.”

I turned to face him more fully. Studying his face, I wanted to ask if he was lying too, right now. I held my tongue though, knowing that would only lead to a fight.

Instead, I asked, “There are holes in my memory right now. Have I had memory issues before?”

Damien turned his head away from me. “What does it matter? The present is what is important.” He looked at me again. “You are happy, aren’t you? With me? With the kids? With how things are now?”

I was, but… I still felt like there was a vital piece of me missing. It was difficult to feel comfortable in this moment, when I was carrying around such a big hole in my thoughts, in my history. Worse, no one wanted to even tell me what happened then.

You were Luna, you were a wife, and you raised the children. The end.

Nothing could ever be that easy.

Annette, Ian’s accusations, and the nurse’s slip that I spent time alone in Jake’s pack were proof of that. Yet whenever I tried to talk about these things with Damien, he bottled up and changed the subject.

“Just put him out of your mind,” Damien said. “He is a delusional man and not part of our lives.”

I lowered my head without saying anything. Damien must have taken that as acceptance and agreement because

he walked to me, kissed my cheek, but then turned away and left.

When he was gone, I finished my filing, but instead of returning to Keegan for my next task, I spotted a computer in the corner of the room. I went there, entered the universal password to get on the internet in this building, and then searched for Jeffery.

As all of his contact information was on the business card, it was easy to track him down. Not only did he have his own website, but he was linked on the more formal website of the various universities that he worked. He was also on other reputable sites that listed memory healers.

He was so high ranking, he seemed to be at the top of every list. In fact, it seemed he had even won several awards for his research and his work.

He was celebrated not only as a fine memory healer, but as the best in the entire kingdom. Even Alpha King Benedict had acknowledge and praised his work.

Over the past few months, since having time-jumped into the now, I had been given a lot of clues about what happened in the past six years. But this felt like it might be the missing piece that would make the entire puzzle come together.

I want to remember, to know my past, even now, with everything else going on.

Maybe I should focus on my training and the looming war. Those were certainly more important than the shadows of the past six years. And I didn’t want to ruin things with Damien. He would be furious with me for trying to uncover answers after he’d been so adamant that we focus on the now.

Plus, he had so much weight on his shoulders already. I would only be adding to it by remembering the things he didn’t seem to want me to remember.

Yet… the past felt integral to truly understanding the person that I was. To have such a big piece of myself missing made me feel unbalanced and uncertain. I didn’t want to upset Damien, but didn’t I owe it to myself to recover what I’d lost? Even if Damien didn’t agree?

He was my mate and my lover, but he wasn’t me.

This felt as though it was my choice to make, since it was my past, my missing piece.

For now, undecided, I sighed, closed the tabs I had opened and deleted the search history of the computer. After logging out, I returned to Keegan’s desk to return to my duties.

An hour later, I was delivering copies of a memo to every office on the floor. Most of them were empty, which was curious, given it was only mid-afternoon and not quitting time yet. Typically everyone left at 5pm.

Some noise from outside claimed my attention and I moved to a window that faced over the courtyard. From three stories up, I could see clearly down below as a training session was happening right outside.

At once, I recognized some of the people taking part as owners of the empty offices I had just been to. Damien was there to, helping to lead the instruction alongside the guard trainer.

My eyes stayed on Damien for a while. He removed his shirt at some point, and his bare muscles flexed and stretched in tantalizing ways, his skin glistening, sweaty, under the mid-day light.

It took a lot of effort on my part to pull my gaze away from him – Gods, he was so sexy, the perfect Alpha male.
