*Sienna’s POV*

In the vast expanse of my life, filled with countless moments of embarrassment, the incident where I poisoned myself stood as a towering monument to my folly. The sheer ridiculousness of it all made my cheeks burn with shame. It wasn’t merely that I had made a colossal error in judgment; it was the horrifying truth that the poison I had ingested was intended to be fatal. The promise of only a little stomach discomfort and fatigue, as Victoria had so flippantly assured me, now felt like a cruel joke at my expense.

Here I lay, enveloped in a blanket of utter humiliation, feeling weak and drained, while my family surrounded me, their gazes piercing through the air like daggers. Each look they cast felt heavy with judgment and disappointment. My mother grasped my hand tightly, as if it were a lifeline, yet she wouldn’t meet my eyes. Dad and Jake hovered nearby, their faces a mixture of concern and disapproval that cut deeper than any knife. And there was Amelia, lurking by the door like a specter, a presence I wished would simply evaporate. But I knew all too well that my wishes held no power in this moment.

The precariousness of my situation weighed heavily on my chest, and I was acutely aware of the fragile balance I had upset.

“I never imagined it would come to this,” I whispered, my voice barely audible, trembling as I spoke. “I thought it was just a prank.”

Jake’s voice sliced through the tension, sharp and unforgiving. “It’s toxic, Sienna. You could have died. Or worse, Amelia could have. Was this ‘joke’ meant for her?”

Tears threatened to spill over, and I fought desperately to keep them at bay. I could fabricate a lie, spin a tale to shield myself, but deep down, I knew they wouldn’t buy a word of it. Ever since Amelia had stepped into our lives like an uninvited guest, they had begun to view me through a lens clouded with suspicion and disappointment.

Gods, how I loathed her. She was systematically taking everything that was once mine, piece by piece.

“You don’t have to answer,” Jake continued, his tone steady yet firm, leaving no room for argument. “The intent is clear.”

I lowered my gaze, unable to bear the weight of their scrutiny any longer, my heart pounding in my chest.

“Sienna,” my mother finally spoke, her voice thick with sorrow, a heavy shroud that wrapped around us all. Now she looked at me, and I could see it—no, not just sadness, but a deep, aching disappointment. Disappointment in me.

Why couldn’t they feel the sting of my disappointment in them?

They had chosen this intruder over their own flesh and blood!

A witch, I was convinced of it now. Perhaps she had sensed the poison and twisted it to her advantage, turning my own folly against me.

“Sienna,” my mother repeated, her voice more insistent, almost pleading. “You need to apologize to Amelia, and you need to do it now.”

A tempest of anger and resentment raged within me, battling fiercely against the remnants of my better judgment.
