Chapter 501
Damien’s POV
I trained Amelia daily, both in the early mornings before work and when I returned after work in the evenings. At the start, we mostly practiced shifting and going for runs staying in charge of the wolf. Amelia gained more command over the wild with each shift, and never lost herself again.
In fact, she was moving forward by leaps and bounds, quickly learning everything I showed her, especially once we started the actual sparing and fighting. She took each of my lessons to heart. And sometimes, at night, when she was supposed to be sleeping, I could hear her practicing in her room.
She was dedicated and a good study.
I was proud of her, truly, even though I still had no intention of allowing her to fight. It was good for her to be able to defend herself, certainly, which was how I justified this training to myself. But when the war would begin, I still expected her to run as far away as she possibly could.
She had talent, but I wasn’t willing to chance her life on it, especially as she had never experienced actual combat before. And as an Alpha, I was constantly holding back my true abilities, not wanting to hurt her.
I didn’t know how she would fair against a non-Alpha warrior.
I hoped I’d never have to find out.
Today, this morning, we were practicing some fighting moves in our human forms. Since I was primarily trying to train Amelia in self-defense, I thought it was best to teach her how to escape a grapple, if someone were to grab her from behind.
She was slight, a potentially easy target made even more tempting because of her being my Luna. Teaching her to escape was the best way I could think of to ensure her safety if I was immediately there to protect her.
If she could escape, then run, and call out to me through our bond, I could rush there to protect her before she would potentially be captured again.
So, for practice, after showing her what I wanted her to do and watching her perform it while not being held, I moved behind her and grabbed her, wrapping my arms around hers, locking hers to her chest like I was strapping her in.
She struggled against me, using the full of her strength to try to break free. That wasn’t what I showed her.
“You are wasting your energy,” I said. “It’s not even straining me to hold you.”
“You’re an Alpha,” she replied stubbornly.
“It doesn’t matter,” I said. “Your assailant will likely be bigger and stronger than you, Amelia. You are fast, but you are not as strong as the average wolf.”
She didn’t like hearing that and struggled a bit harder. I still barely noticed a strain in my arms. I could do this all day.
Though… I really hoped she performed the training soon, because my body was starting to react to her closeness and her squirming against me. I grit my teeth, trying to stay present in the moment.
1/2
This wasn’t supposed to be about sex, or my body’s natural attraction to my mate. I was trying to help her, wanting her to learn and be safe.
“Amelia,” I said, and my voice came out a bit rougher than I intended it to.
To my surprise and secret delight – the tips of her ears turned red.

Apparently I wasn’t the only one being affected by this position and our movements.
