Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 505

Chapter 505

Claire’s POV

The morning of the tournament, Richard, Ruth, Stenna, lan, and 1, as well as a couple of Richard’s council members all took potions to disguise our scents and our appearances. Then we sneaked across the border into Damien’s pack lands and approached the capital city.

Though we were unknowns, we easily blended in with the large crowds that had gathered in the outdoor event space. Several different rings were set up to hold several fights at once. The largest of these had the most bleachers arranged to watch. The others had varying levels of seating with a few having no seating at all.

Peter the Crow, ou champion, had already made his way across the border to fully embed himself in this subterfuge. We didn’t see him, though we weren’t looking very hard. Most of the fighters would be behind the scenes in some fighters-only areas, like a locker room or a medical tent.

Sienna and lan mostly led the way, having been here before many times. Richard, Ruth, and the council had been there less times, so they were pleased to follow in this case.

I knew this place best, having lived most of my life in this pack, in this city, but no one seemed to expect me to lead, and I was thankful for that.

Being here again gave me conflicted feelings. I had carried many titles during my time here: daughter of the Beta, mother of the Alpha’s child, councilwoman, and traitor.

Yet never before had I been so outcast that I was returning only as a visitor. Other than to watch the tournament and hope our rogue won to install the fear that Richard hoped for, I had no real plan for action or revenge. I was simply a guest, here to take part in the festivities before returning to my new home in rogue territory.

1 I saw several people that I knew, some that were loyal to me and many otherwise, but I was forced to hold my tongue for all of it. I couldn’t risk drawing attention to us. After all, if the rogue kind was going to be captured, it would ruin the entire war before it even began.

If I thought I was being brave coming here when I was a criminal, Richard was the pinnacle of courage. He didn’t even seem worried, laughing and taking part in the good mood surrounding the event. He hand his arm over Ruth’s shoulders and pointed toward a concession stand selling popcorn like he was going to buy some for the fights.

Everything felt so surreal.

Not just Richard’s behavior, but everything.

Most of the pack seemed to be in good spirits. I overheard some talking about how the tournament seemed to give them all a break in the tension, giving them something else to focus on other than training and everything

else.

I had no respect for them. Richard could relax because he had an army of bloodthirsty war-hardened warriors at his back. What did Damien’s pack have but salesclerks and businessmen in suits? Their biggest hardship in life had been impatient customers or hostile boardrooms.

They had no idea what it was like to live with hardship, and they hadn’t spent their whole lives training and fighting just to live.

They had no idea the storm that was coming, that was going to raze not just the city, not just the pack but the entire pack to the ground.

Let them have their little celebration, drinkding from their cups and cheering for their pathetic warriors.

Their end would be here soon enough.

After getting some refreshments, we walked toward the large scoreboard that displayed every fighter entered and showed how the fights would be broken down

“Do you know any of these warriors?” Richard asked me. “Are any of them worthy of our observation?”

I preened slightly, pleased that the Rogue King was asking me for advice, Why shouldn’t he? After all, this had been my home pack until it became so unbearable. If anyone would know these people, it was me.

Looking up at the scoreboard, I looked at the list of fighters. I knew almost all of them, and knew of most of the rest. In fact, there was only one that I didn’t know: an anonymous fighter, like Crow, who was going under the false name of Shadow.

I told Richard what I knew about the rest.

“This one played defensive on the football team…

“This one was overweight the last time I saw him…”

“…that guy weighs a hundred pounds soaking wet.”

“She was on the softball team in college. Might need to watch out for her.”

I had something to say about almost everyone on the list – except for Crow and Shadow. Richard nodded approvingly and I prided myself on being valuable. Hopefully that meant he would come to rely on me more moving closer to the war.

I had lots of pack secrets I was willing to turn over… for the right incentive.

A little bit of power would go a long way with me. Put me in charge of a bit of land, with maybe a few underlings, and I’d spill every bean I knew. Was that too much to ask? Didn’t seem like to me.

At the very least, I wanted my familial home back.

For now though, I had to just be useful and hope that continued to win me favors in the good graces of the rogue king.

As I finished, the others moved away to start to find some seats for the softball woman’s fight. I would soon follow them, but I was curious about some of the others. I wanted to catch sight of a few of them before I settled into one place.

Deciding to see if that guy lost that weight, I turned, ready to scope out his fighting ring – and nearly ran straight into Damien’s chest.

He had been walking right behind me, and in my hurry, I hadn’t even noticed him.

Before I could face plant into him, he reached out and caught me by the upper arms, steadying me.

“Careful,” he said, pleasantly enough, with no trace of annoyance. “Lots of people here today. Can’t move too quickly or you’ll risk tackling someone.”

It had been so long since he had talked to me without malice or irritation in his tone that it took me a moment to convince myself this really was Damien and not some imposter.
