Chapter 510
Damien’s POV
I lowered the phone at once. It didn’t matter what else he had to say. All that matter was Amelia was gone and I had to find her. I stood up, ready to run for the exit.
Benedict looked up at me. “Where are you going? Fight 4 is about to start.”
I could hear him now. The crowd had quieted for a moment while the referee gave the rules.
“Jake said Amelia wasn’t at home.”
“So?” Benedict said.
“She could be taken. She could be anywhere.”
“She probably just changed her mind and came to the tournament.”
Would she do that? I tried to think. She had been talking about wanting more independence, and with the questions she had been asking me lately about the tournament, it would make sense if her curiosity won out.
There was something about being to these events in person that you couldn’t get at home through a television screen. The very air was electric, like anything would happen.
I wished she would have called me first if she wanted to come here, but… with how angry she was with me… Maybe she would have come here without telling me.
“With how many warriors and guards there are here, she couldn’t be in a safer place,” Benedict said. “You should stay. Besides, what kind of message would it send to our fighters if their own Alpha didn’t want to watch them anymore? Stay. Amelia is fine, I’m sure of it.”
I was still on edge, still uncertain. But, closing my eyes, I stretched out through the bond. I felt no urgency on Amelia’s end. Her heartrate was slightly elevated, but that could have aligned with the actions of the fighting.
Yes, she felt close, even if I wasn’t sure where. There were so many people. If I forced myself to pinpoint her, maybe I could have, but I was certain that would have upset her.
Knowing she was here, enjoying herself, that had to be enough.
She wanted space, and I needed to respect that. I had to respect her and her wishes.
So I sat back down and tried not to worry. It was difficult, but I trusted her to call out to me if she needed me. With her this close, if she called for me, I would hear her, and I would find her. I would rescue her in the blink of
an eye.
The 4(th) match started, eliminating any hope of continued conversation as the roar of the crowd muffled all
else.
The match was exciting. Admittedly, I was hoping Crow’s opponent would win, but once more Crow made the better showing.
I was beginning to wonder if my warriors simply weren’t accustomed to fighting against such a street-brawl kind of fighting style. Maybe they were too practiced. How would that translate to the battlefield when lives
1/2
were on the line?
I needed to consider this, and maybe make some corrections to the trainings moving forward.
My people needed to learn how to fight a little dirtier. While still maintaining their dignity of course. But a bit of wildness meant unpredictability, and that would serve them better on the battlefield.
