Chapter 509
Amelia’s POV
I had some scrapes and bruises from my second fight, which only seemed to get aggravated from my quick cramped trip into the supply cabinet. Now that I was out of it again, Eve quickly patched me up.
I was feeling lucky, having won two fights and avoided Damien.
Eve frowned at me, still uncertain about this whole thing, but I was riding my high. I didn’t know that I’d win one fight, let alone too. If only Damien could see me now, Would he be impressed?
Maybe not. Maybe 1 still needed to win more.
“Go on,” Eve said. “Your next fight will start soon. I’ll expect you right back here after,”
“Okay, wish me luck!” I said, bouncing up to my feet.
“Be careful,” Eve said instead.
Turning away from her, I rushed out of the tent, where one of the event organizers was waiting for me,
I expected to be led back to one of the rings on the outskirts of the event space, but this time, I was led to one fairly close to the main ring. From here, I could see Damien up in the bleachers. My heart leapt into my throat. If he looked over and saw me…
The bell rang, and I had to focus.
Twenty minutes later, after my hardest won fight thus far, I was right back in the healers’ tent, sitting down on a metal stool while Eve used bigger bandages than last time to patch me up,
Admittedly, I was a bit more sore after this fight than the ones before. My opponent had managed a few good blows on me, knocking the wind out of me once. I had even skidded across the ground once, which wore a hole in my shirt. Fortunately, my burned skin healed before I bled too much.
I didn’t know how well my scent depressants would work on the smell of my blood. At first, I had worried that would have been the moment that Damien would have finally spotted me, but he seemed distracted by other things and didn’t notice me.
“You’ve won three,” Eve said. “That’s a good showing. There would be no shame in backing out now. You’ve done well, and Damien will be impressed.”
“Maybe,” I said. “But I can’t just give up. I’ve come so far.”
“These bruises are healing but they were severe. That had to have hurt.”
It did. A lot. But so would getting wounded in a battle. Besides, my wolf was already blocking most of the pain.
“I’m okay, Eve, I promise.”
Eve gave me a hard look. “If you get permanently hurt, we’ll both be in a world of trouble.”
I knew Eve didn’t really care about the trouble. I’d seen her stand up to Alpha’s before. This was just her way of worrying about me, and I loved her for it.

She had been my mentor and became my friend. My memories with her were some that I was so happy to have restored. I couldn’t believe that I had at any thought she was a stranger to me.
“If I get into a spot where I think I might get seriously hurt, I swear to you that I will surrender the fight,” I told her. “I want to prove myself, but I know my limits.”
Eve’s expression turned grim. “You always push yourself too hard,” she said. “This time, I’m worried you will push yourself to the brink.”
“I won’t,” I said. “I’ve still got my kids at home. I won’t let my pride push me to injury and keep me from them.”
Eve seemed skeptical up until now, but with the mention of the children, she nodded, accepting that.” Surrender for them, if you need to.”
If I surrendered, my opponent had to stop fighting. Those were the rules.
We were all pack members here. No one wanted to actually hurt anyone else beyond the limits required for the match.
When she had finished working on me, I stood up and stretched out. My soreness had ebbed somewhat and I was ready for match 4.
The last match before the finals. Gods, I had no idea how I made it this far. It felt like luck, but I wasn’t going to question it. But I also couldn’t afford to get overly confident. This next match could be the one that kicks me out and sends me home.
“Thanks, Eve,” I said and started for the flap of the tent.
Just as I was leaving, another contender entered. He was a large, bulky man in a skull mask.
He must have seen me coming through, but he didn’t move to make room for me. Instead, he shoulder checked me hard. He was nothing but pure muscle and I bounced off of him like I was made of rubber, falling down to the ground just outside of the tent.
“That was unnecessary,” Eve said from within the tent.
“Are you the Healer here, or the referee?” the masked man said. “Because I don’t think my actions are any of your business.”
The event staff member who had been escorting me today hurried forward and helped me stand back up.
“Thanks,” I said.
“I’m not your healer,” Eve said. “Not if you treat people like that.”
“Whatever,” the masked man said and pushed out of the tent. He glared at me as he walked by.
“Who is that?” I asked the staff member after he had gone.
“That’s Crow,” she replied. “His identity is a mystery, like yours, but he’s been so impressive, he’s fought in the main ring every fight after his first one. I’m sure he’ll be in the finals.”
That meant, if I manage to win my next match, he would be the one I would face.

Gods, that man was like a mountain. Against him, how would I ever possibly win?
No, I corrected myself. I didn’t need to worry about that right now. I just had to focus on my next match. What came after was something to worry about then and only then, if I won.
“Where is my next match?” I asked, ready now for whatever would come.
Damien’s POV
Back in the bleachers, I tugged my phone out of my pocket. Maybe if I called the warden, he could tell me if he had any idea who this Crow was.
When I looked at the screen, I froze. My phone said I had 3 missed calls and they were all from Jake.
