Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 518

Chapter 518

Amelia’s POV

I welcomed my parents and Jake into the house. Together we went into the living room where I sat teween Mom and Dad on the couch, with Jake nearby on the arm chair.

Damien followed us inside but he gave us a wide berth, walking down to his office while adding the lining room entirely.

My feelings for him were currently something of a confused jumble, but I was grateful for the space be was giving us so that we could work out the differences between us. Surely Damien must have told them about how much I remembered now. They must have talked about wanting to apologize.

Conversations like these were always difficult to start however, so for a time, we just sat there, ganding at each other somewhat awkwardly. No one seemed to know how to begin.

Mom finally started. “Amelia… we are so sorry for the lies we told you, and the truths we kept from you”

“We were worried about you,” Dad said. “Damien had pushed you so far in the past, causing you to flee onto our lands. Then we found out you were ours and… When you lost your memory, we thought.” He sighed. “We wanted to protect you.”

“You never should have been taken from us to begin with, as a baby,” Mom said. “We thought maybe we could pretend that you never had been.”

“That’s how and why Annette came to be,” Dad added.

I tried to take that in, to understand. I knew they wanted to protect me, and given the history that they knew between Damien and me, I could understand their desire to keep me from him.

But this hadn’t been just about Damien and me. Not at that point. There were also the children. As I lost my memory, Amy had just been born.

“Because of what you did,” I said slowly, not wanting to come across too harshly but also needing to be heard. “I lost precious moments with my children. For the first six years of their lives, I wasn’t there. I didn’t hear their first word or see their first steps. I missed so much…”

Tears welled in Mom’s eyes. “Oh, Amelia. If I could do it all again, I would give you those years back.”

“It was my idea from the start,” Jake said. He leaned forward, resting his arms on his cane. “If you should be mad at anyone, be mad at me. Mom and Dad wanted to tell you the truth many times, but I wouldn’t let them. I’m the one most at fault here.”

“We all had a part to play,” Dad said. “We must all bear the burden of guilt.”

I was angry about missing the most formidable years with my children, and that wound would take the longest to heal.

But, the years I had spent with Mom, Dad, and Jake were not unhappy ones. I remembered feeling a sense of longing, like I was supposed to be somewhere else. But outside of that, I had been happy.

Being with them helped me learn how to be myself in a way I had always hidden while with Damien. I learned to

be bold and to stand up for myself and what I believed in. Those years had helped shape me into a better version of myself that I couldn’t regret. Not all the way.

“I love you,” I said to them. “Each of you is special to me and together we are family.”

Mom placed her hand on my knee and I placed my hand over hers.

“Forgiveness will take time, but I think there is hope for that,” I said. “But I ask you to be patient with me, to give me some time to truly find forgiveness.”

“Of course,” Dad said. “And anything we can do…”

“We want to try to make it up to you,” Mom said.

I didn’t think my forgiveness would work like that. This wasn’t a mistake they could just correct. This was six years lost. My children weren’t going to get young again.

But I still loved my brother and my parents. I still believed this could work, in time.

“Just continue to be there for me and for the girls,” I said. “Someday…”

I left it at that and everyone else did too.

“Thank you for the chance,” Mom said and sniffed.

We let the conversation sit for a while in the silence, as the weight of it washed over us. There wasn’t really anything else that could be done or said, but to just get up and walk away felt like it didn’t give the depth of the conversation enough time.

So we sat in silence for a few minutes before Jake pushed himself up from his chair. “We should speak to Damien about the battle. There’s a lot to plan for.”

I nodded. He was right.

Standing, I showed them the way to Damien’s office. He stood as we entered.

“Damien,” Jake said. “We want to offer warriors to help with the battle.”

“And I will stay to assist,” Dad said. “I can also help with my brother. I’m sure he hasn’t made things easy on you.”

I knew he hadn’t, but Damien was more diplomatic. “That’s kind, thank you.” To Jake, he said, “I would never turn away help. If Crow is a reflection of their typical warrior, then we have a hard fought battle ahead of us.”

“I would like to fight as well,” Jake said.

“Jake,” Mom started.

“I’m an Alpha, mother. I am born for battle.”

“But you’re injury…”

Jake was doing much better since the last time I had seen him, but he still relied heavily on the cane to walk. While I had no doubt his wolf was still fierce, it worried me what the strain of a shift might do to his human

form. If he pushed too hard, too quickly, he could do more damage.

I looked at Damien, and caught his eye. I tried to convey all that with just a glance. Damien seemed to understand at least some of my concerns. Likely he also had his own.

“The Alpha King, your father, and myself are all going to be on the battlefield,” Damien said. “It would be wise for one of our stronger pack leaders to sit this one out, to continue the fight if the rest of us fall in battle.”

Jake cursed. “I feel useless.”

“You are important,” Damien said. “The kingdom will need you if things go badly.”

Jake sighed. “Fine.”

Some relief filled me, knowing Jake would be safe. Then, realizing he would probably be kept protected in his estate, I had an idea.
