Chapter 524
Damien’s POV
Victoria?
“She was really nice, Daddy,” Stacy said. “And the kids too! Did you know there were kid rogues?”
“Victoria’s your sister?” Amy asked. “So she’s our Aunt for real?”
“Then the kids are our cousins!” Stacy added excitedly.
I looked between them as they talked, but then looked at Amelia for answers. “Tell me everything.” I paused.” On the way home.”
It was getting late, which made my already protective wolf even more on edge. I was glad to have my family restored, but I didn’t think I could relax again until all of us were safely back at home.
Martin and Lillian each took the hands of one of the girls and they walked ahead of us. Amelia stayed at my side as we covered them from the rear, always keeping ourselves between them and the border to the rogue territory.
I needed more guards patrolling this forest, I decided and made a mental note to correct at once.
As we walked, Amelia told me all that had happened, including seeing and interacting with Victoria, and how Victoria had helped conceal them from another rogue.
My protective urges flashed, searing me like a brand, as guilt set in. I should have been there. I should have kept them out of this danger.
I pushed those intrusive thoughts away. Amelia had been there. Victoria too. The girls were safe. Everything was fine.
It seemed I owed Victoria a great deal. I often worried for her, and wondered how she was doing as a rogue. Her punishment had been rightfully earned, for what she had contributed to and the hurt she had caused.
I wished I could thank her now, for helping to protect my family. At the least, I hoped she and the children would be safe during the coming war.
Maybe if I could speak to her… Maybe she might even help us further…
We kept walking, and eventually reached home again. A large force of my warriors were standing out back, waiting for direction. After sending the others inside, I spoke with my warriors to have them patrol the forest and the border, to make sure no one followed the scent of Amelia and our children back across the border.
With that handled, I went back inside of the house.
In the light of the living room, Amelia and her family squared up against the girls. I joined their side.
“Why did you run away?” Lillian asked, and I was glad she did. I loved my girls, I didn’t want to be cruel with them, but my worry was still palpable inside of me, and I wasn’t sure I could have this conversation without raising my voice.
Both girls looked guilty, their eyes lowering.

“We heard you and Mommy talking…” Amy said. “We know you were thinking about…”
She couldn’t say whatever it was, but Stacy could and picked up her slack.
“We know you are thinking about breaking your bond with Daddy and leaving us, Mommy,” Stacy sald.
I entirely froze, the blood in my veins turning to ice.
This was the first time I had heard of this. Amelia was… She wanted to…
I swallowed thickly and looked over at Amella. She had her face turned away from me.
“Why didn’t you talk to one of us?” Lillian continued, gently probing, “Why run away?”
“We thought if we left, Mommy and Daddy would look together to find us,” Amy said. “We thought…”
“It was supposed to bring them together,” Stacy finished.
“That was wrong,” Martin said now. “You worried all of us, and put yourselves in danger.”
The girls slumped further. “We’re sorry…”
Jake looked between Amelia and me. “Mom, Dad. Why don’t we take the girls upstairs for a while? Leave the happy couple to sort things out.’
Lillian and Martin seemed to agree and started to pull the girls to the stairs.
“Please don’t break up!” Stacy called, before the group of four went around the corner.
Jake stayed in the room with Amelia and me. He looked at me hard.
“If you want to fix this,” he said. “If you don’t want to lose my sister for good this time, then you had better listen to her. Hurt her again, and I don’t care how bad my injury is, I will make you suffer, got it?”
A low growl escaped the back of my throat. Alphas didn’t like being threatened by other Alphas. But in this case, I bit it back, knowing he was right.
I was about to lose everything, and if I blew it again, if I hurt Amelia again, I would deserved to have my ass
kicked.
Jake seemed satisfied with my response and made his way out of the room. When he was gone, I looked to Amelia, who still had her shoulder turned, facing away from me.
“Amelia… is this true?” I asked, when I could find my voice to speak.
“I thought about it,” she admitted. “You’ve been pushing me away, Damien. I was starting to feel like I didn’t have any choice.”
“I’ve been pushing you away?” I repeated with outrage.
If anyone had been pushing anyone away, it had been her pushing me.
And still she wasn’t looking at me. I couldn’t stand this anymore.
I approached her, grabbed her arm, and turning her, pressed her back against the nearby wall. I crowded into her

space so she didn’t have any choice anymore. I was all around her, my arms on either side of her. She had to look
at me now.
And she did, looking up at me with defiance. But in this moment, her will wasn’t as strong as it had been in the past. I could see the hurt flickering through her eyes… I could also sense her desire.
She liked when I took charge like this.
1 crowded in closer.
“Do you really believe you could break the bond? That you could let me go?” I asked. My voice fell naturally lower, deeper and more graveled, “I love you more than life itself. I would do anything for you. I would tear down the whole world just to keep you safe.”
“Will you let me fight beside you on the battlefield?” she asked.
