**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 84**
**Chapter 84**
**Amelia’s POV**
As the sun rose the following day, my thoughts remained ensnared by the memory of Damien. The sheer terror of almost losing him gripped my heart like a vice, and I found myself replaying the events over and over in my mind. The moment he stepped into the examination room, bloodied and battered, it felt as if time had frozen. My heart, once a steady rhythm, came to a complete halt. I had been consumed by worry, my thoughts spiraling into dark corners, fearing the worst for him.
In that instant, all the resentment and anger I harbored towards him seemed to vanish into thin air. All I could think about was the unbearable pain of losing him. The thought of a gaping void where my heart used to be was suffocating. It was a feeling I loathed, yet I forced myself to confront it. Only by examining these emotions could I hope to understand their depth.
The anxiety that had churned within me, the fear that Damien could be seriously injured or worse, had morphed into a whirlwind of relief and lingering dread when I saw him alive, yet vulnerable, in that sterile room. The knowledge that he had rushed straight from the battlefield to be there for his appointment made my heart race.
I could feel the memories flooding back—the way he had thrown himself into the fray, the determination etched on his face, and the urgency in his movements. In those moments, my mind was not clouded by the pain he had caused me; my only concern was for his safety.
It was as if my defenses had crumbled, and in their place, a familiar warmth surged forth—a rekindling of love for Damien. When he entered that room, my heart leaped with joy as he reassured me that most of the blood was not his own. My hands trembled slightly as I inspected him, searching for signs of injury, and the relief that washed over me when I confirmed his words was overwhelming.
He was safe. That realization brought a wave of happiness, a balm for my frayed nerves. It was as if a tightly sealed jar had burst open, releasing all the love I had tried so hard to suppress. Even now, I felt the remnants of that love swirling around me, and I struggled to gather those scattered feelings, attempting to shove them back down into the depths of my heart.
Acknowledging my love for Damien complicated everything. It resurrected old wounds, dragging them back into the light for me to confront all over again. In the end, the love I felt for him seemed utterly irrelevant. He had made his choices, choosing to start a family with Chloe, deceiving me in the process.
In those moments of reflection, I felt a bitter ache. He had made decisions without considering my feelings, treating my love as if it were inconsequential. What good was my love when he had shown so little regard for it?
