**CONTENT: Chapter 94**
**Amelia’s POV**
As I stood there, wrapped in the warmth of Damien’s embrace, a sense of familiarity began to wash over me. At first, it was merely a gentle sensation, a fleeting comfort that felt almost surreal. But then, like a sudden jolt, the realization hit me—these were Damien’s arms, the very ones I had often turned to in moments of distress.
In an instant, I broke free from his hold, stepping back to reclaim my personal space. A flurry of emotions surged within me, battling for dominance. Why did I feel comforted? Why did his presence affect me so deeply?
To my surprise, Damien did not attempt to pull me back in or close the distance between us. Instead, he released me and took a step back himself, creating an even wider gap. His eyes fell away from mine, and I was left in a haze, unable to decipher the thoughts swirling behind his gaze.
Just then, Eve, sensing the tension, moved forward with purpose. “Come to the examination room, Amelia,” she urged gently, her voice a soothing balm. “It’s time for your appointment anyway. We can check your vitals there and ensure you’re alright.”
“Alright,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper as I pushed past Damien. I wasn’t ready to confront the emotions that hug had stirred within me, the warmth that had momentarily chased away my fears and confusion. To acknowledge that… to admit that Damien still brought me comfort over anger and fear felt like a betrayal to my own heart.
Feeling a sense of defeat, I walked around him, following Eve as she led the way to the exam room. I could sense Damien trailing behind, perhaps feeling obligated to uphold the promise he had made to Cara. He halted just outside the door, lingering in the threshold, unwilling to enter the space where I would be examined.
Eve gently closed the door behind us, leaving him on the other side, a silent guardian in the hallway.
Dr. Wyatt glanced up from his equipment, concern etched across his features. “What happened? Amelia, you look pale,” he remarked, his brow furrowing with worry.
“She had a terrible shock,” Eve interjected, her tone filled with regret. “And I fear I am partly to blame for this situation.”
I made my way to the examination bed, the cool surface a stark contrast to the warmth of Damien’s embrace. As soon as I settled onto the bed, Eve moved closer, her expression filled with genuine sorrow.
“I’m so sorry, Amelia,” she said earnestly, her voice trembling slightly. “I should have believed you when you insisted you didn’t sign those forms. We should have initiated an investigation from the very beginning, instead of allowing things to escalate to this point.”
I couldn’t fault her; after all, I had been just as blind to Sienna’s deceit. I had been more inclined to believe that I had simply forgotten signing those forms than to consider that someone might be trying to frame me for their own gain.
