Connor narrowed his eyes, his whole vibe turning frosty. The tension coming off him was so thick, Chloe felt like she couldn’t even catch her breath. “Whatever you’re up to, forget it. Not happening.”
Chloe’s face dropped. She couldn’t believe it. They had come in so humble, basically swallowing their pride, but Connor still refused to give them the slightest bit of respect.
Damien’s expression was stiff, but he knew the favor they needed was huge. He couldn’t exactly talk about it in front of all these people. They’d just have to bring gifts and visit the Jefferson family tomorrow.
“Connor, it’s not what you think. We mean no harm.”
He turned to Chloe. “Chloe, it’s still dinner time. Let’s talk about this after dinner.”
Chloe had no choice but to let it go and nodded. “Alright. We won’t disturb Connor any further.” The three of them went back to their seats.
Meanwhile, Benjamin, Mandy, and Rosie were left standing there, completely ignored. No one even pretended to notice them, let alone invite them to sit. The three of them were seething.
Benjamin shot Mabel a mocking look. “Mabel, have you lost your place in the Robinson family? We’ve been here all this time and you haven’t even bothered to greet us?”
Mabel just rolled her eyes. “Did it ever occur to you that maybe everyone just hates having you around? Maybe that’s why no one wants to talk to you.”
She didn’t bother to hide her feelings anymore. In the past, she used to think Rosie was just a kid and shouldn’t be dragged into the drama between adults. But now, it was obvious Rosie had picked up all her parents’ bad habits and didn’t care about Mabel, William, or the entire Robinson family. If that was how they wanted to play it, then fine. No more pretending. She wasn’t going to let Benjamin act like the big brother in her life anymore. It was nauseating.
Benjamin practically blew up on the spot. “Mabel! I’m your brother! Is this how you treat your own family?”

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
