Grace could hardly believe how fast Lydia had acted. Panic tightened her throat as she watched Lydia with desperate eyes. “Lydia, I’m sorry. But this has nothing to do with Lucinda, I promise. Please don’t let the police take her away. No matter what, she’s still your sister, right?”
Lydia’s lips curled into a half-smile. “Sister? Are you sure? Of all people, you should know whether she’s ever treated me like one.”
Grace fell silent, her words drying up in her mouth. She knew Lydia was not someone you could outmaneuver.
Back at the Norwood house, Lucinda was exhausted but couldn’t sleep. Her mind kept spinning, replaying the day’s events, and she kept checking her phone for messages from Grace. Nothing came. She also listened for any sign of Lydia coming home, but the house stayed quiet.
So Lydia really planned to spend the night out with that man? Lucinda could only hope that the people Grace sent were good at their job, and that they managed to snap plenty of photos of Lydia messing around with some guy. If they did, Lydia would be ruined for sure. Once Grandpa Samuel and Connor saw those photos, there was no way they’d let Lydia marry into the Jefferson family.
The more Lucinda thought about it, the more she couldn’t hold back a smile. She even let out a little laugh.
But reality has a way of ruining the best plans.
While she was still caught up in her daydreams about Lydia getting caught, the sound of a car engine drifted in from downstairs. Lucinda immediately thought Lydia was back and sprang out of bed, creeping to the window. In the moonlight, she spotted several police officers stepping out of a squad car.
Her smile vanished in an instant, replaced by a wave of dread. She yanked the curtain shut and hurried back to her bed, heart racing.
What should she do now? Did Grace’s people get caught? Why are the police here tonight?
She could hear voices from downstairs, and her anxiety only grew as she paced her room.
Suddenly, there was a loud knocking on her door, shattering the silence.

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
