Rosie felt her phone buzz, but she didn’t bother checking it. She just slipped it back into her bag and followed her parents inside as the butler welcomed them.
The Hydes family had always been big in business back in the Capital. Then Jackson, with his top-notch grades, got straight into military academy and started his life in uniform. Later, he became one of Connor’s right-hand men and, over time, the two became inseparable. That was when his career really took off.
Mandy, even though she was only the Hydes’ adopted daughter, was smart, thoughtful, and always so considerate. She’d really won over Mr. and Mrs. Hydes, especially with how devoted she was. But as Jackson’s position rose, the Hydes family’s influence in the Capital only got stronger, and their bond with Mandy seemed to get weaker. Still, no matter what, the Hydes were Mandy’s safety net.
As soon as they walked in, they saw Mr. and Mrs. Hydes, both with snowy white hair, talking quietly with Jackson. Jackson looked tense. After being held for days, he was embarrassed, and it showed.
When his parents asked why he’d been under investigation for so long, Jackson stayed quiet. He just couldn’t bring himself to explain. The shame was too much.
“Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle Jackson…” Rosie’s voice was soft and sweet, just like always. She greeted them as soon as she stepped inside.
The Hydes family felt the weight in the room, so their usual smiles weren’t there. Mrs. Hydes managed a gentle smile. “Rosie, you’re back.”
Rosie nodded and went straight to her grandmother, hugging her arm close. “Yes, Grandma, I missed you so much.”
Jackson was the child Mrs. Hydes and Mr. Hydes had late in life. When Mrs. Hydes was younger, she had health problems and couldn’t get pregnant, no matter how many hospitals she visited. Then, some fortune teller told them to adopt a child first, so they brought Mandy home. Miraculously, two years after adopting Mandy, Mrs. Hydes got pregnant with Jackson.
Growing up, Jackson always treated Mandy like a real older sister. Still, as they got older, things changed. No matter how close they’d been as kids, life and ambition pulled them apart.

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
