Lydia watched Lucinda put on her innocent act and couldn’t help but smirk. “I’m not hungry. You can have it.”
She turned to leave, but after a few steps, she glanced back at Lucinda. “You must be exhausted, waiting up for me all this time. You should take care of yourself. I’m going to bed.”
Lucinda was about ready to scream. Was Lydia not even bothering to pretend anymore? She was just being this open about her arrogance now? Furious, Lucinda stomped up the stairs after her.
Lydia had her hand on her bedroom door when Lucinda called out, “I’m just trying to help you. You’re engaged to Connor. If people find out you’re out late at night with other guys, it’s not going to look good for you.”
Lydia arched an eyebrow. “Connor? You say his name like you are close.”
Lucinda folded her arms, her voice sharp. “Of course. I’ve been calling him that for over ten years. It’s not easy to change. Hope you don’t mind. You’re not jealous over a name, are you?”
Lydia just shrugged. “Call him whatever you want. It’s not like he can hear you. Just make sure he never does, though. If he did, he’d probably tell you he’s your brother-in-law.”
Lucinda felt like she was going to explode. “You… You… Connor isn’t even in the city right now. If he hears you’re out with other men, he’ll get the wrong idea!”
Lydia’s eyes narrowed a little. “Out with other men?”
The next morning, Lydia drove herself to school. She was eager to get back to working on Krista’s antidote. But before she even made it to the lab, she ran right into Yara and Marilyn.
“Lydia, since you already have a fiancé, you really should stay away from Garrett,” Yara said, her tone smug. She’d gotten close with Lucinda yesterday and even exchanged numbers. She was determined to win Garrett over, and now she felt more confident than ever. Lucinda had promised to help her set up a meeting with Garrett as soon as he got back from abroad. Yara could barely contain her excitement.
Lydia just rolled her eyes. Of all people to run into first thing in the morning. She shot Yara a look and said, “You’re unbelievable.” Without another word, she slung her bag over her shoulder and walked away.
Yara was left seething. How could Lydia just brush her off like that? Who did she think she was? Just because she was Mr. Moore’s prized student? What else did she have going for her, really? Last night, the girls had all agreed—there was definitely something shady about Lydia’s relationship with Mr. Moore. Why was Lydia the only one allowed in the special lab? And why was Mr. Moore always in there with her? There was clearly something going on between them that they didn’t want anyone else to know about.

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
