“Miss Brown, are you for real? Have you been watching too much sci-fi? I could tell you I’m an alien. Would you believe that?”
Mona let out a frustrated stomp. “Why won’t you believe me?”
Mikey turned her around, zipped up her dress, and said, “Miss Brown, can you stop? If you’re hanging around me for some other reason, then maybe we should just call it quits.”
He started to walk away, but Mona grabbed his arm. “Why are you so stubborn? I’m telling you the truth! You’re in the Capital right now, can’t you find someone trustworthy to report this to?”
Mikey narrowed his eyes. If Mona was setting him up and he played along, he’d be walking right into her trap.
“Do you like playing games, Miss Brown?”
Mona was at her breaking point. She grabbed his face and bit down hard on his lip. If she was going to put on an act, she had to make it convincing.
Mikey flinched from the pain and touched his lip. It was bleeding.
“You—”
“If you don’t believe me, then forget I said anything.”
With that, Mona walked out first.
The bodyguards trailing them took pictures of everything, sending updates straight to Mrs. Brown. She watched the photos roll in and smiled to herself. Since they seemed to be getting along so well, tonight would be the perfect time to lock in the engagement.
After a while, Mona got tired and wanted smoothie. Mikey had no choice but to set the bags down and tell her to take a break while he went to stand in line. It was the weekend, so the place was packed and the line was long.
While he waited, Mikey pulled out his phone and quickly messaged Lydia, telling her everything Mona had said in the fitting room.
Lydia had just finished lunch at the hotel with Mr. Brown and some others when Mikey’s message came through. She knew that clones were just as smart as regular people. Maybe Mona was testing Mikey, trying to see if he suspected anything. But what Mona had said...
Every clone had a barcode and a chip. If Mona wasn’t a clone, she wouldn’t have those.
After thinking it over, Lydia replied to Mikey: [Just go along with it for now. Tonight, we’ll check and know for sure.]

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
