Ready to Rule The Real Heiress Strikes Back (Lydia and Connor) novel Chapter 1262

Her eyes meant everything to her. Without her sight, so much of her world was suddenly out of reach. It felt like her whole life had just shattered.

Kevin was beside himself, pacing and fuming. He turned to Lydia, trying to sound gentle. “Come on, Lydia. Sit down. Let me check you over, okay?”

Lydia nodded quietly. “Alright.”

The lab had all the equipment they needed. Kevin put on gloves and a mask, then started the examination himself. When the results came in, his face fell. The optic nerve was damaged.

He explained softly, “The optic nerve is part of the central nervous system. It takes what your eyes see and sends it to the brain so you can actually make sense of it. If it’s hurt, your vision drops, or you might lose parts of your field of view. Sometimes… it leads to complete blindness.”

It was just as Lydia had feared.

Connor’s voice trembled. “So… Is there a way to fix it?”

Kevin let out a deep sigh. “The optic nerve can’t regenerate. Once it’s damaged, it’s almost impossible to repair.”

And for Lydia, the damage meant she couldn’t see at all.

Kevin looked suddenly older, the weight of it all pressing down. Lydia wasn’t just his pride—she was famous in her field, celebrated across the country. Now… it just felt like the world was so unfair. How could someone so gifted be brought down like this? How could she ever use her talents again? And could she really accept that this was her new reality?

Connor just stood there, stunned. Then, as if a light switched on, he grabbed Lydia’s hand. “Lydia, what about Vision Rejuvenation Grass? That’s what fixed my eyesight, right? Couldn’t it help you too?”

Kevin whipped his head around, eyes wide. “You have Vision Rejuvenation Grass?”

This herb was a miracle for eye problems—if you could find it. But it had disappeared ages ago. Most people had never even heard of it.

Connor caught the hope in Kevin’s voice and latched on. “So it could work?”

Connor’s brow furrowed. “Clones?”

Kevin nodded. “Yes, clones. Lydia’s been working on this nonstop ever since before she went to Country D.”

Connor thought back to all those days Lydia had been buried in work before her trip. He’d asked her what was going on, but she’d just brushed it off as ‘work.’ Now he realized it was so much more. There were actual clones in the Capital?

Lydia kept her voice calm. “It’s alright. I can keep handling the clone case.”

“But—”

“Have Carter work with me as my assistant. I don’t trust anyone else to help with this,” she said firmly.

Kevin hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Alright. But Lydia… this won’t be easy.”
