Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 159

Connor’s words landed like a thunderclap. Byron and his team were stunned, but even Lydia couldn’t believe what she’d just heard.

His fiancée?

When did she ever agree to that?

Byron looked like he’d seen a ghost. If he remembered right, Mr. Jefferson’s fiancée was supposed to be Lucinda Norwood. So who was this girl standing in front of them? How did she suddenly become Mr. Jefferson’s fiancée?

He had to admit, though, that this girl was stunning. Honestly, she was way prettier than Lucinda. She had this cool, untouchable vibe that made her seem almost regal. Standing next to Mr. Jefferson, they looked like they belonged together, as if fate had paired them up.

“Mr. Jefferson’s fiancée is so good at this,” Byron said, still in shock but genuinely impressed.

She just took down twenty-two grown men. Just how strong was she?

Lydia gave a small smile. Her voice was light and matter-of-fact. “Those guys were just really bad at fighting.”

Byron blinked at her, thrown off by how familiar her voice sounded. It reminded him of someone—a legendary hacker named L who had helped his team crack some of their toughest cases. He’d always admired her. Was it just a coincidence?

Meanwhile, Parker and Rose, both in handcuffs, could hardly breathe. Thanks to Kylie, they knew exactly who Connor was. They’d even seen him once or twice, though he’d never bothered to notice them.

Everyone knew Connor was engaged to Lucinda. Rose had thought she was seeing things when she spotted Connor here. But it really was him.

Why was he with Lydia? And why would he call her his fiancée?

How could that even be possible?

Lydia was just a nobody from the countryside. Even if Kylie took her in as a goddaughter, that didn’t mean she could marry someone like Connor.

Lydia hesitated. She really didn’t want to trouble him.

Connor saw right through her. “Your business is my business.”

Lydia could only nod. “Thanks for helping out.”

Connor ruffled her hair right in front of everyone. “You are welcome.”

After Connor left, Lydia headed into the station.

In the interrogation room, Rose’s voice echoed, thick with tears. “It was all a misunderstanding. We just had a work disagreement. We only wanted to talk to her. We’d never hurt her, I swear, officer. I’m telling you the truth.”

“But all twenty-two suspects have already testified,” the officer replied. “They said you paid them to hurt her. They were just following orders.”
