Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 189

Sandy stopped in her tracks, a bitter smile flickering on her face. Without saying a word, she turned and walked back to her room.

All those empty promises were just to get her to donate a kidney to Luke. That much was obvious.

Milana watched, her face darkening with frustration. It was just a kidney, not her whole life. Why was Sandy making such a big deal out of it?

Honestly, this was all Lydia’s fault. Milana was convinced she’d done it on purpose. That girl was always stirring up trouble.

Fuming, Milana borrowed a maid’s phone and fired off a message to Lydia.

[Lydia, you did this on purpose. You knew we hadn’t told Sandy about donating yet, and you just blurted it out. Let me warn you, if she refuses and throws a fit, delaying Luke’s surgery, I won’t let you off the hook.]

Milana needed someone to take her anger out on, and Lydia was the perfect target.

But Lydia wasn’t about to back down.

She replied in seconds. [You know Luke needs surgery right away, but you still kept it from her. If there’s a delay, it’s on you, not me. You should be thanking me for saying what you couldn’t. Well, I’ll accept your thanks.]

Milana was so furious she almost threw the phone. Instead, she blocked Lydia and deleted the chat.

No matter what, Sandy had to donate that kidney. Milana refused to stand by and watch her son die.

Lydia set her phone aside and turned her attention to the stack of applicant profiles Josef had brought over.

Greenward Power needed new talent. This round of hiring wasn't just for high-level executives and directors; they were open to recent college grads and undergrads too. Sure, these young people didn’t have much experience, but they brought fresh ideas. In design, imagination and raw talent mattered most. Just look at Jenny.

With Norwood Enterprises backing them, Greenward Power was flooded with applications. Lydia had just picked out three candidates for second interviews when her phone buzzed.

It was a video call from Dr. Hady.

“Take a breath. Keep your hands steady,” she instructed.

“Yes,” Dr. Hady answered quickly.

“His blood vessels are narrow. Use the thinnest polypropylene suture. Line it up carefully. Make sure your stitches are precise and continuous.”

Lydia’s clear, gentle voice drifted through the tense operating room, like a soothing breeze. Everyone’s nerves seemed to settle just a little.

With Lydia talking him through it, Dr. Hady felt his confidence return. He remembered every move, every detail from when he’d watched Lydia operate before.

Seeing he was back in control, Lydia continued.

“Control the tension and pace of the needle. Use a continuous suturing technique so you don’t damage the vessel or cause more bleeding.”
