Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 191

Josef took the folder with a nod. “Yes, ma’am.”

He hesitated for a second, then asked, “Ms. Norwood, do you have any lunch preferences?”

“Don’t worry about me. I’m heading out around noon.”

“Alright.”

Josef couldn’t help but admire Lydia. He’d always known she was sharp, but seeing her in action was something else. She was young, but she moved fast and didn’t mess around. With her running things, Greenward Power was bound to take off.

Lydia headed downstairs, making her way to the hospital. As she stepped out of the building, she noticed a group of girls hanging around by the big glass windows. They were all dressed up, chatting and sneaking peeks inside.

Jenny was at the front desk, sorting through the day’s paperwork. She spotted Lydia and waved. “Ms. Norwood!”

Lydia smiled and walked over. “Who are those girls by the window?”

Normally, she wouldn’t have cared, but she recognized one of them. Sierra. She was one of the three candidates Lydia had picked for a second interview.

Jenny glanced over and laughed. “Oh, those girls? They’ve been here almost an hour. Came for interviews, but they’re just hanging out now. I asked, and they said they’re waiting for a friend.”

Lydia got the picture.

As she walked out the door, the girls’ voices drifted over.

“It’s already noon. Why isn’t anyone leaving yet?”

“I know, right? People say Greenward Power treats employees well, but everyone’s still working past twelve. Isn’t that kind of harsh?”

“Honestly, who cares? As long as you’re on the boss’ good side, sneaking out a little early isn’t a big deal.”

“I agree. Josef was so cute today. I think I’ve got a crush.”

“I heard Henry is the boss’ son. Why didn’t we see him around?”

“He’s probably up in the executive office. Let’s wait a little longer. Maybe he’ll show up when everyone goes for lunch.”

Darla’s face twisted in anger. “Did you hear that? She just called us dead weight.”

Sierra frowned, clearly annoyed.

Another girl with a short haircut scoffed. “She’s got a lot of nerve. Let’s put her in her place.”

The group hustled after Lydia, closing in fast.

“Hey! Stop right there!”

“We’re talking to you. Don’t walk away.”

“I swear, she needs to be taught a lesson.”

They caught up quickly, surrounding Lydia, like a pack of mean girls about to gang up on someone.

Lydia just looked at them, amused. “You really want to start something?”
