Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 220

The call ended abruptly.

Sandy just sat there, feeling like her whole world had crashed down. It was like a bolt of lightning had hit her brain, leaving her dazed and numb.

Jenson and Milana were just as shocked. None of this made sense.

Why would Grandma say something like that?

Could Lydia really be...

Milana stared at Lydia, searching her face for answers. “Wait. Are you… are you Miracle Hands’s apprentice?” She could barely get the words out, her voice shaking with disbelief.

It wasn’t impossible, was it? Grandma clearly knew Miracle Hands. She could have secretly sent Lydia to train under her. The thought made Milana’s head spin.

Lydia stayed quiet, her expression calm.

Dr. Hady just let out a sigh, looking tired of this conversation.

Why was it so hard for this family to accept the truth?

Sandy looked at Lydia as if she’d never seen her before. “How could you possibly be Miracle Hands’s apprentice?” Her voice was full of doubt and confusion.

It just didn’t add up. There was no way.

Lydia let out a soft sigh. “Believe what you want. The truth is, I’m the only one who can do Luke’s surgery. If you agree, sign the forms. I need to get ready.”

She turned and walked away, leaving the others reeling.

If Dr. Hady hadn’t personally guaranteed it, Jenson never would have believed it.

Dr. Hady just shook his head, clearly done with the conversation. “No one but Lydia can do your son’s surgery. You should trust her. She wouldn’t have agreed unless she was absolutely sure of herself.”

Jenson thought about it. This was a life-or-death operation. If Lydia wasn’t capable, she wouldn’t pick up the scalpel.

Sandy sat on the edge of the bed, her whole body numb. She couldn’t believe she was the same age as Lydia, yet she was the one lying here, about to have Lydia cut her open and take her kidney. Why was her life so unfair?

Sandy and Luke were wheeled toward the operating room. Milana and Jenson stood together, gripping each other’s hands so tightly their knuckles turned white. Their emotions were all over the place—nervous, anxious, hopeful, terrified. Nothing felt real.

Just then, Lydia appeared, dressed in crisp white scrubs and surrounded by doctors and nurses. She looked so calm, so in control. For a second, Milana and Jenson felt like they were watching someone else entirely, not the girl they thought they knew.

As Lydia reached the doors to the operating room, Milana finally snapped out of it. She rushed forward, grabbing Lydia’s arm and fixing her with a hard stare. “Lydia, listen to me. If you can’t save Luke, or if anything happens in that operating room, I swear, I’ll hold you responsible. You’ll pay for it with your life.”
