Dr. Simpson walked beside Lydia and shot Milana a pointed look. “Mrs. Smith, she will do everything she can for your son. Everyone on the surgical team is committed to helping her. Please, just wait outside and trust us. We need to focus on the surgery, so let’s not waste any more time.”
Dr. Simpson couldn’t stand the way Milana talked, always sounding so sharp and threatening. Did she not realize that if Lydia hadn’t agreed to take on this risky operation, there would be no hope for her son at all?
Instead of being grateful, Milana was acting like this, making all the doctors feel bitter and discouraged.
Milana’s cheeks burned with embarrassment after Dr. Simpson’s words. Deep down, she was just scared that Lydia wasn’t as skilled as everyone said, and that something could go terribly wrong.
She just couldn’t bring herself to trust Lydia.
If Luke weren’t running out of time, she wouldn’t have Lydia be anywhere near the operating room, not even as Miracle Hands’ apprentice.
She was still mad at Mrs. Smith for forcing them to apologize to Lydia. Mrs. Smith couldn’t even get Miracle Hands himself, and now had to swallow her pride and hope for the best. She made a mental note to settle this after the surgery.
Jenson was mortified that Milana would say something like that in front of all the doctors. He stepped forward quickly, trying to smooth things over. “I’m sorry. Truly. My wife is just worried sick. We trust all of you and believe you’ll save our son. Please, we’re counting on you.”
To show he meant it, Jenson bowed deeply to the whole medical team.
Dr. Simpson finally let it go. He looked at Lydia. “Let’s head in.”
Lydia glanced at Jenson and Milana, gave a quiet nod, and followed everyone else into the operating room.
As the doors closed behind them, Jenson turned to Milana and hissed, “Until Luke is better, you need to be respectful to Lydia.”
No matter how they felt about her, they had to face reality. They were the ones begging Lydia for help. If they kept acting this way, why would anyone want to save their son?
Milana knew she’d lost her temper, but she just couldn’t accept that Lydia was Miracle Hands’ apprentice. She kept worrying Lydia wouldn’t give it her all.
“I understand…” she said quietly.
“If it were you, what would you do?”
She needed to know. If she and Lydia hadn’t been switched at birth, if Lydia was really the Smiths’ daughter, would she have given up a kidney?
Lydia met her eyes, her voice soft. “There are no what-ifs.”
Sandy let out a bitter laugh. She was right. In this world, there were no what-ifs.
“Try not to think about it. Close your eyes.”
Sandy felt exhausted. Everything started to blur. Before she could worry anymore, she slipped into sleep.
“Let’s begin.” Lydia pulled on her gloves and picked up the scalpel.

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
