Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 223

They both jolted awake and rushed over in a panic.

A nurse came out, pushing Sandy on a gurney. She was still unconscious. Jenson and Milana barely glanced at her before blurting out, “Doctor, where’s our son? Why isn’t he out yet?” It was like Sandy wasn’t even their child. They didn’t ask a single thing about her.

Dr. Simpson followed right behind, giving them a look that said he was not impressed. “Isn’t this your daughter?”

How could these two call themselves parents? All they cared about was their son.

Jenson flushed awkwardly and nodded. “Yes, yes, that’s her.”

“Her condition is stable for now,” Dr. Simpson told them. “She needs to stay in the ICU for four hours. One of you should go with her.”

Jenson and Milana hesitated, almost like they hadn’t heard him at all. Milana pressed again, “Doctor, what about our son? Did the surgery work? Why isn’t he out yet?”

Dr. Simpson could see they only cared about their son. The daughter who had just donated a kidney to save him might as well have been invisible. He shook his head.

“With Lydia in there, the surgery was a success.”

Relief washed over them. The tension finally broke.

“That’s amazing! Oh, thank God, Luke is going to be okay!” Milana’s eyes filled with grateful tears. She could finally stop worrying about losing her son.

Jenson was just as overwhelmed. “Thank heavens, our son made it. The surgery worked.”

Dr. Simpson kept his voice short, clearly annoyed. “Your son needs to stay inside for another hour so Lydia can keep an eye on him. Right now, you need to get your daughter settled.”

But Milana couldn’t care less about Sandy. She only had eyes for her son.

So far, everything looked great. The operation had gone perfectly.

Dr. Hady was honestly in awe of Lydia. There were no words for the respect he felt.

The other doctors who witnessed the whole surgery were amazed too. Lydia was young, but she’d pulled off a medical miracle. Considering Luke’s condition, no one else could have done it so smoothly or so well. They’d seen someone pulled back from the edge of death.

“You’ve been here all day. Go home and get some rest. I’ll stay here and keep watch tonight,” Dr. Hady said sincerely. Luke’s case was special, and he wanted to be there himself.

Lydia glanced at the clock. It was already one in the morning.

She checked Luke over one more time. Everything was steady. She nodded to Dr. Hady. “Thanks for everything. If anything changes, call me right away.”

Luke’s recovery still wasn’t a sure thing. If he made it through until morning without any problems, then he’d be out of the woods.
